Construction Materials-Other Building Materials
FRP daylighting tiles are widely used in China due to their advantages such as corrosion resistance, aging resistance, impact resistance, high light transmittance, aesthetic shaping, low cost, energy-saving and environmental protection, durability against aging and corrosion, good light transmission, flame retardancy, long-lasting performance, and rich colors.
FRP daylighting tiles are composed of high-performance top film, reinforced polyester, and fiberglass. The top film serves a crucial role in providing excellent UV resistance and static electricity resistance. The UV resistance protects the polyester of the FRP daylighting board from yellowing and aging, which can lead to premature loss of light transmittance. The static electricity resistance ensures that dust on the surface can be easily washed away by rain or blown away by wind, maintaining a clean and aesthetic surface.
Installation and Usage
1. Prior to fixing the daylighting tiles, pilot holes must be drilled. The hole diameter must be greater than 50% of the diameter of the fixing screws to avoid internal stress cracking of the daylighting tiles caused by thermal expansion and contraction.
2. The daylighting tiles should be fixed using aluminum profile fasteners. Wavy daylighting tiles are connected and fixed using daylighting tile brackets and self-tapping screws, followed by sealing with adhesive. The position of the daylighting tiles is generally set at the midspan.
3. When overlapping the daylighting tiles with steel plates longitudinally, there must be a minimum overlap of 200mm, and two strips of water-stop tape must be adhered.
4. When connecting the daylighting tiles with self-tapping screws, a cover plate must be used. Due to significant thermal deformation of the polycarbonate sheets, they can be easily pierced by self-tapping screws. Therefore, larger holes should be made at the self-tapping screw locations. The installation of the daylighting sheets should consider their elasticity.
5. During the fixation of the daylighting tiles, good drainage washers must be used between the screws and the daylighting sheets to prevent water and dust ingress. After inserting the drainage washers into the screws, use an electric drill to lock them into the purlins, thus completing the fixation of the daylighting sheets.
6. Daylighting tiles do not require overlapping if the span is within 12m. If it exceeds 12m, overlapping is needed, with an overlap length of 200 - 400mm. Two coats of sealant should be applied at the overlap joints. No edge sealing is required for lateral adhesive applications, while longitudinal overlaps with color steel plates should depend on the panel type. Generally, for ordinary profiled steel plates, edge sealing is not considered; they can be directly fixed with self-tapping screws to the color plates, followed by sealing with adhesive. Interlocking panels require edge sealing.
7. During the construction of daylighting tiles, it is strictly prohibited to step directly on the peaks to avoid cracking the daylighting sheets. It is necessary to place a non-slip thick wooden board measuring 1200mm x 300mm (length x width) at the transverse position of the daylighting sheets, and step on it to perform the pilot hole drilling and fixing screw work.
Application Range
Applications include industrial factory roofs and walls for lighting, warm light for agricultural vegetable greenhouses, roof lighting for public sports venues, and places requiring flame retardant, anti-corrosion, and thermal insulation for special buildings. Additionally, they are used in warehouses, greenhouses, stations, docks, airports, commercial buildings, steel structures, and many other daylighting fields.
