The first of its kind nationwide, another non-grain bioproduction line has been launched!

On March 12, it was reported from the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that China's first self-developed 200,000-ton straw protein and digestible sugar production line has recently been officially launched.

The technology was led by Researcher Zhang Dongyuan from the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, relying on the advanced synthetic biology, fermentation engineering, and process bionic technologies of the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the National Synthetic Biology Innovation Center. After 7 years of research and development, a set of biomass depolymerization and molecularization straw technology system was created, including key technical systems such as a termite process bionic continuous oxidation depolymerization system, substrate-specific cellulase system, and an intelligent control high-solid continuous fermentation system. This breakthrough overcomes the biological conversion bottleneck posed by the dense degradation-resistant barrier formed through the evolution of straw, forming a complete intellectual property protection from specialized equipment development to production processes and products.

Zhang Dongyuan stated that the construction of this production line is an important attempt at the efficient utilization of non-grain protein raw materials in our country. It can not only effectively serve national food security but also change the current situation of high costs and constraints due to grain output in China's feed processing, exploring a practical and innovative solution for the feed industry.

According to the information, this achievement has officially launched cooperation and technological deployment in multiple locations including Gongzhuling, Jilin, and Zhoukou, Henan. It is expected to achieve a production scale of 3 million tons in the next three to five years, contributing to the national food security strategy, efficient utilization of straw waste, and cost reduction and efficiency improvement for breeding enterprises.
