The 1.2 million tons/year ethylene and 260,000 tons/year acrylonitrile project will be fully handed over by the end of April.
It is reported that in the East District of Jilin Petrochemical Company, the construction of a 1.2 million tons per year ethylene project has entered the final stages. Workers are currently conducting pipeline pressure testing, oil transportation for compressor units, and single machine trial operations. As the core facility of the Jilin Petrochemical refining and chemical transformation and upgrading project, the ethylene facility has a total investment of 3.729 billion yuan and covers an area of 118,600 square meters. It adopts the CBL cracking technology and LECT separation technology independently developed by Sinopec Engineering Construction Co., Ltd. Upon production, it will annually produce 1.2 million tons of polymer-grade ethylene and 587,000 tons of polymer-grade propylene. Lu Siyi, the construction manager of the East District project management department, introduced that the project will be fully handed over on April 30 this year and will be put into production within the year. By then, the total ethylene production capacity of Jilin Petrochemical will reach 1.9 million tons per year, and the ethylene capacity and chemical scale will reach a domestically advanced level. The effectiveness of "reducing oil and increasing chemicals" will be significant, forming an industrial layout and product structure with distinctive Jilin characteristics and competitive advantages.
In the western area of Jilin Petrochemical Company in China, the 260,000 tons/year acrylonitrile unit has also entered the final stages, and it is planned to be synchronized with the ethylene unit for a mid-year handover on April 30, with production expected to commence within the year. After being put into production, Jilin Petrochemical's key chemical products, including ABS, acrylonitrile, and methyl methacrylate, will achieve a leading capacity in China, with ABS annual production capacity reaching 1.8 million tons, ranking first in China and third in the world. This will not only help optimize the regional industrial structure, promote green development in the industry, and facilitate industrial collaboration and upgrading, but also stimulate local economic growth and contribute to the revitalization of the old industrial base in Northeast China.
The total investment for the Jilin Petrochemical transformation and upgrading project is 33.9 billion yuan. In September 2022, the Western region project started construction first, focusing on key chemical facilities such as acrylonitrile, styrene, and ABS. Additionally, it will renovate a 300,000 tons/year synthetic ammonia and a 250,000 tons/year methyl methacrylate facility.
