Siemens and MicroGen Sign Strategic Cooperation Agreement to Promote PHA Applications
Recently, Siemens and MicroPlastic Factory (MicroPlastic) have officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement to comprehensively deepen their collaboration in the fields of digitalization and low-carbon solutions. Both parties will leverage the construction of the万吨级PHA production line phase one (hereinafter referred to as "the PHA ten-thousand-ton-scale production line") by MicroPlastic's subsidiary, MicroPlastic Bio (MicroPlastic), to create a smart manufacturing benchmark in the field of synthetic biology, jointly promoting the large-scale application of industrial biotechnology.
Siemens (China) Co., Ltd. Digital Industries Group Senior Vice President and Process Automation Division General Manager Liu Likang said, "Synthetic biology is an important direction for future manufacturing, and Siemens will leverage low-carbon technology and digital innovation to help Microstructure create and launch benchmark projects in the field of biomanufacturing, exploring new pathways for a zero-carbon economy." Siemens (China) Co., Ltd. Digital Industries Group Senior Vice President and Process Automation Division General Manager Liu Likang said, "Looking to the future, we expect to provide full lifecycle support for the large-scale application of PHA biomaterials through leading process automation systems, digital twins, carbon management platforms, and other innovative technologies, exploring the deep integration of Industry 4.0 and synthetic biology."
Siemens and Microvolution have a long-standing cooperation. Siemens' automation and drive technologies have helped Microvolution achieve a fully digital closed-loop in biomanufacturing, which has been implemented in the PHA production line at the ten-thousand-ton level. Through this strategic cooperation, both parties will further deepen their collaboration in the PHA production line (Phase II) project at the ten-thousand-ton level: by using industrial artificial intelligence, edge computing, process simulation, and other technologies to build a digital benchmark in biomanufacturing, relying on carbon footprint tracking and energy-carbon management platforms to create a low-carbon benchmark, and by using virtual commissioning, predictive maintenance, and other technologies to help Microvolution achieve a comprehensive intelligent upgrade. Meanwhile, Siemens will establish a procurement partnership with Microvolution to promote the application of PHA biomaterials.
Micro Fabrication Workshop positions itself as a "global leader in synthetic biology and biomanufacturing," providing sustainable solutions based on green biological materials for customers worldwide. With its pioneering halophilic chassis cell technology and "next-generation industrial biotechnology" system, it has established China's first ten-thousand-ton PHA production line. Collaborating with global partners, it promotes the application of PHA in cutting-edge medical scenarios (human tissue repair materials and fillers) and everyday life scenarios (3D printing materials, textile fabrics, and eco-friendly packaging), ushering in a new era of advanced medical care and leading a new ecology of zero-carbon consumption.
