Sales Only One-Seventh of BYD! Honda China August Sales 53,339 Vehicles, Down 6.36% Year-on-Year

Kuai Technology 2025-09-05 16:24:25

On September 7, Honda China announced its sales figures for August. Sales in August reached 53,339 units, with cumulative sales from January to August totaling 413,310 units.

Although sales in August increased by 19.01% month-on-month, the downward trend has not been reversed, with a year-on-year decline of 6.35%; cumulative sales from January to August reached 4,133,100 units, down 21.35% year-on-year, marking eight consecutive months of double-digit declines.

From a different perspective, as a leading domestic car brand, BYD's sales in August were 373,626 units, while Honda China's sales in August were only 1/7 of BYD's.

It is noteworthy that Honda's sales in China have been under pressure since the fourth quarter of 2024. The average monthly sales for the first eight months of 2025 were approximately 51,700 units, lower than the 65,800 units during the same period in 2024.

Moreover, Honda's sales in China were 1.5615 million units in 2021, 1.3731 million units in 2022, and 1.2342 million units in 2023. In 2024, sales fell below one million units for the first time, reaching only 852,300 units, a year-on-year plunge of 30.94%. This marks the fifth consecutive year of declining sales for Honda in the domestic market.

Honda's previously popular models, such as the Civic, Accord, and CR-V, are now struggling to support Honda China's overall sales in the face of the impact from domestically produced new energy vehicles and the price war.

China used to be Honda's largest single market globally. However, as Honda's sales in China have declined, its market share in China has been surpassed by the U.S. and Japanese markets. If Honda cannot quickly reverse its downturn in China, it might even follow the same path as Mitsubishi in China.
