National Standard for Car Door Handles May Be Introduced, Over 1.533 Million Related Automotive Production and Sales Enterprises Exist
Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology solicited public opinions on the mandatory national standard "Safety Technical Requirements for Automobile Door Handles", which is proposed to be implemented in 2027. The draft requires that each door (excluding the tailgate) be equipped with an external door handle with a mechanical release function, which should be able to open the door from the outside without the use of tools in the event of an accident. This implies that fully hidden door handles may be prohibited.
Although hidden door handles offer a futuristic feel and advantages in reducing wind resistance, they can become obstacles in emergencies. While hidden door handles are favored for reducing drag and enhancing aesthetics, they also present issues such as being hard to locate, difficulty in opening after an accident when power is lost, and susceptibility to freezing in winter. Automotive companies are also paying close attention to this, with some executives openly acknowledging their shortcomings.
With the implementation of mandatory national standards, car door handle design is expected to shift from pursuing a sense of technology to prioritizing safety. Industry insiders believe that car manufacturers need to redesign door handle structures to meet safety requirements. Although the new standards may increase costs, in the long term, they could help reduce repair and recall costs.
According to data from Tianyancha Professional Edition, as of now, there are over 1.533 million existing and active enterprises related to new energy vehicles in China. Among them, approximately 179,000 new related enterprises have been registered since the beginning of 2025. From the trend of enterprise registration numbers, the registration of new energy vehicle-related enterprises has shown a year-on-year growth over the past five years, reaching its peak in 2024.
From a regional distribution perspective, Guangdong Province, Shandong Province, and Jiangsu Province have the highest number of new energy vehicle-related enterprises, with the total number in these three provinces exceeding 422,000, accounting for 27.6% of the total number of enterprises.
