Kiefel Unveils High-Speed rPET Thermoforming Machine and Fiber Packaging Technology at K Show

Plastmatch Global Digest 2025-08-04 10:33:02

To celebrate its 70th anniversary, German machinery manufacturer Kiefel will showcase a range of cutting-edge technological achievements in thermoforming, fiber-based packaging, and sustainable manufacturing at the upcoming K Show. This exhibition aligns closely with the current industry demands for increased efficiency, digital transformation, and environmental responsibility.

The highlight of the Kiefel booth is undoubtedly the debut of the new generation tilt-type thermoforming machine—speedformer KTR 6.2 speed. This advanced system is designed to improve material utilization and overall production line performance. It is capable of processing recycled PET (rPET) into high-quality products such as cups and has undergone rigorous testing in collaboration with Coexpan. These tests focused on maximizing the use of rPET in industrial-scale thermoforming, fully demonstrating the machine’s seamless compatibility with sustainable raw materials.

The speedformer KTR 6.2 is equipped with several innovative technologies, including the SpeedGuard film guiding system and the ProSpacing system. These innovations work together to increase the machine's output and enhance its adaptability to various product shapes. Visitors to the Siemens booth (Hall 3, Booth D16) can also interact with the digital twin model of the speedformer, gaining an early understanding of how virtual support tools assist with equipment integration, remote diagnostics, and operational optimization.

Kiefel, adhering to a long-term commitment to sustainable development, will prominently showcase fiber-based packaging technology at this exhibition. The company will demonstrate the Natureformer KFT Lab on-site, a device that uses a proprietary dual impregnation process to produce fiber-based margarine containers with enhanced barrier properties. This packaging is suitable for containing oily or high-fat content while ensuring complete recyclability, aligning with the concept of a circular economy.

Kiefel's dry fiber technology is also a major highlight. This technology can produce packaging directly from paper rolls, capable of producing items such as beverage cup lids and trays at a high output of up to 70 million per year. This fully demonstrates Kiefel's commitment to providing sustainable packaging that meets various industrial needs.

To support customer innovation, Kiefel will also highlight its expanded Customer Innovation Center. This center provides support to customers throughout the entire product development lifecycle, covering all stages from design and prototyping to scaled production and commercialization.

In addition to packaging technology, Kiefel will also showcase solutions in the fields of medical technology and large thermoforming systems. The company plans to present a product made entirely from recycled plastic at the VDMA pavilion and will hold a product launch on October 9 to discuss its broader impact in circular economy applications.
