Countermeasure Against the US! The Ministry of Commerce Adds Illumina Inc. to the Unreliable Entity List
The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce Answers Questions on the Measures Taken Against the US-based Illumina, Inc. for Being Added to the Unreliable Entity List
Q: China announced today the measures taken against the US-based Illumina, Inc. for being added to the unreliable entity list, deciding to ban its export of gene sequencing instruments to China. What is the consideration behind this decision?
A: On February 4th, China lawfully decided to add the US-based Illumina, Inc. to the unreliable entity list. The company violated normal market transaction principles by interrupting regular transactions with Chinese enterprises and taking discriminatory measures against them, severely damaging the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies. Considering the circumstances of the company's illegal actions, the unreliable entity list mechanism lawfully made the decision to prohibit it from exporting gene sequencing instruments to China.
China has always been cautious in handling issues related to the unreliable entity list, only dealing with a very small number of foreign entities that endanger our national security according to the law. The Chinese government, as always, welcomes enterprises from all over the world to invest and do business in China, and is committed to providing a stable, fair, and predictable business environment for law-abiding and compliant foreign-invested enterprises operating in China.
