China's First Independently Developed Green High-End Polystyrene (PS) Unit Successfully Launched

On October 22, 2025, at 23:57, the 300,000-ton/year polystyrene (PS) unit of PetroChina Guangxi Petrochemical Company successfully produced qualified products, marking the successful startup of PetroChina's first independently developed and fully domestically produced green high-end polystyrene unit.

The device adopts the second-generation polystyrene proprietary technology independently developed by Guangdong Huanqiu Guangye Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Huanqiu Engineering Co., Ltd. It can flexibly produce various grades of products in the general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS) series and high impact polystyrene (HIPS) series, covering the needs of fields such as electronics and electrical appliances, automotive components, medical devices, and high-end consumer goods. The device employs the world's advanced continuous bulk polymerization process and is equipped with key technologies such as fully mixed flow reactors and plug flow reactors. While ensuring excellent product performance, its energy consumption and environmental protection indicators both reach industry-leading levels. The device is designed by Guangdong Huanqiu Guangye Engineering Co., Ltd. and constructed by Hebei North China Petroleum Engineering Construction Co., Ltd. Construction began on October 12, 2023, and it is expected to be fully completed by May 30, 2025.

The successful commissioning of the facility has fully integrated the company's "ethylene-styrene-polystyrene" full process, further extending the industrial chain. The facility focuses on the production of high value-added products, playing a significant role in optimizing the regional industrial structure, consolidating the security of the industrial chain, and fostering new points of profit growth.
