BASF announces: Helmut Winterling appointed as President of European Operations
Helmut Winterling, the current CEO of chemical giant BASF, will assume the role of President of European Operations and Head of Integrated Management starting July 1, 2025. The chemist, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cologne, will succeed Uwe Liebelt. Uwe Liebelt has decided to leave the company to pursue entrepreneurial ventures of his own accord.

Resume and New Responsibilities at BASF
Winterling has been with BASF for over 17 years, including 5 years working in Shanghai. In his new role, he will be responsible for managing the European integrated sites in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Antwerp, Belgium, as well as the Schwarzheide site in Germany. These sites employ approximately 13,700 people. Winterling will report to Katja Scharpwinkel, the site head on the Executive Committee.
