130 Product Grades, 400,000 Tons Full-Density Polyethylene Plant Successfully Starts Up!

At 11:28 on September 30th, the 400,000 tons/year full-density polyethylene (FDPE) unit at PetroChina Guangxi Petrochemical Company successfully produced qualified products, achieving a successful start-up in one go.

The device adopts the Unipol gas-phase fluidized bed polyethylene production process and introduces four catalyst systems: titanium, chromium, metallocene, and bimodal (reserved) to provide technical support for diversified product production. Using ethylene as the main raw material, combined with butene or hexene as comonomers, it can produce polyethylene products of high, medium, and low density. A total of 130 product grades have been introduced, including 3 bimodal product grades. The application fields widely cover various niche markets such as film materials, injection molding, blow molding, rotational molding, wire drawing, and piping. The device was designed by China Huanqiu Daqing Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. and constructed by the Seventh Construction Co., Ltd. of China National Petroleum and Natural Gas, with groundbreaking on December 12, 2023, and full completion by July 10, 2025.

As one of the main production units of the integrated transformation and upgrading project, the full-density polyethylene unit aims to fill the polyethylene production capacity gap in South and Southwest China, alleviating the supply pressure of basic chemical raw materials in the region. Meanwhile, the unit precisely configures high-end products such as metallocene polyethylene in its product portfolio, which will effectively enhance China's self-sufficiency in high-end polyethylene materials and reduce dependence on imported products.
