PPS Main Properties
◆ [Excellent Heat Resistance] Its melting point exceeds 280°C, heat distortion temperature exceeds 260°C, and long-term use temperature is 220-240°C. It degrades at 700°C in air and retains 40% of its weight at 1000°C in inert gas. Both short-term heat resistance and long-term continuous use thermal stability are superior to all current engineering plastics. Specially modified varieties can achieve a heat distortion temperature of over 350°C.
◆ [Intrinsic Flame Retardancy] Polyphenylene sulfide can reach UL94-0 flame retardancy level, and its oxygen index (LOI) is >57%. Its chemical structure provides excellent flame resistance without the need for added flame retardants.
◆ [Good Mechanical Properties] It has strong rigidity, high surface hardness (Rockwell hardness >100HR), tensile strength >170MPa, flexural strength >220MPa, notched impact strength >16MPa, and flexural modulus >3.5×10^4, along with excellent creep resistance and fatigue resistance.
◆ [Excellent Chemical Resistance] No solvents have been found that can dissolve polyphenylene sulfide below 200°C, and it has strong resistance to inorganic acids, bases, and salts.
◆ [Good Dimensional Stability] It has a very low molding shrinkage rate of less than 0.0025%, absorption rate of less than 0.05%, and a small linear thermal expansion coefficient. It exhibits good dimensional stability even under high temperature and high humidity conditions. Therefore, it has a wide range of applications in machinery, chemicals, instruments, aerospace, and shipping.
◆ [Good Electrical Properties] Polyphenylene sulfide retains excellent electrical properties under high temperature, high humidity, and high frequency conditions, with volume resistivity of 1×10^16Ω.cm, surface resistivity of 1×10^15Ω, and electrical strength >18KV/mm.
◆ [Radiation Resistance] It has radiation resistance of Gy1×10^8, making it a new material unparalleled by other engineering plastics, particularly ideal for applications in electronics, electrical engineering, machinery, instruments, aerospace, military, and especially radiation-resistant materials.
◆ [Good Processing Performance] PPS resin has low melt viscosity and good flowability, making it easy to wet and contact with glass fibers. Therefore, it is easy to fill and prepare glass fiber or inorganic filler reinforced injection-molding grade materials, which possess high resistance to stretching, impact, bending, and ductility. It can be uniformly molded above its melting point.
◆ [Good Adhesion to Metals and Non-metals] PPS exhibits very high bonding strength to materials like glass, aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel, achieving a bonding level of 1. Its adhesion to glass is good, making it suitable as a lining for chemical equipment.
PPS Main Application Areas
Electronics and Electrical: Packaging for microelectronic components, connectors, terminals, sockets, coil frames, trimmer capacitors, and fuse bases.
Machinery and Instruments: Pump housings, impellers, bearings, gears, pulleys, universal joints, seals, flanges, counters, levels, and flow meter components.
Automotive Field: Temperature sensors, evaporators, evaporator pumps, seat bases, and water tank chambers.
Home Appliances: Electric fans, microwave oven brackets, clothes dryers, coffee makers, rice cookers, hot air curlers, hair straighteners, and air conditioning compressors.
Military Field: Components for fighter jets, vertical tail fins, combustion chambers, connectors for aerospace vehicles, coil frames, and instrument panels, especially major components for stealth fighters and bombers. Parts resistant to nuclear radiation for nuclear submarines, supports, helmets, military tents, utensils, astronaut supplies, and corrosion and wear-resistant components for naval vessels and submarines, as well as new military vehicles being developed in the USA (currently in production) and plastic tanks being developed in the UK (in experimental phase), etc.
Fibers and Films: PPS fibers blended with other synthetic fibers can be used to produce high-performance industrial filter cloth and radiation-resistant fabrics for aerospace use. PPS films are excellent insulation materials reaching F-level, suitable for capacitors, impedance electronic components, flat coil frames, wire coatings, coverings, evaporator membranes, thermal printing materials, soft magnetic disks, and sensitive films for electronic photography.
