Nylon, known as polyamide in English (abbreviated as PA), is a general term for thermoplastic resins that contain repeating amide groups —[NHCO]— in their molecular backbone. Its naming is determined by the specific number of carbon atoms in the synthetic monomer. It was invented by chemist Wallace Carothers and his research team at the DuPont Company, which is the largest chemical industrial company in the United States.
The nylon series is an important engineering plastic. This product has a wide range of applications, covering almost every field, and is the most widely used variety among the five major engineering plastics.
1: Nylon 6 (White): This material has superior overall performance, including mechanical strength, rigidity, toughness, mechanical shock absorption, and wear resistance. These characteristics, combined with good electrical insulation and chemical resistance, make Nylon 6 a "general-purpose" material for manufacturing mechanical structural parts and maintainable components.
2: Nylon 66 (Cream Color): Compared to Nylon 6, it has better mechanical strength, rigidity, heat resistance, wear resistance, and creep resistance, but its impact strength and mechanical shock absorption are reduced, making it very suitable for machining on automatic lathes.
3: Nylon 4.6 (Red-Brown): Compared to regular nylon, Nylon 4.6 is characterized by strong rigidity retention, good creep resistance, and better heat aging resistance over a wider temperature range, thus it is used in "higher temperature fields" (80-150°C) where Nylon 6, Nylon 66, POM, and PET do not meet requirements for rigidity, creep resistance, heat aging resistance, fatigue strength, and wear resistance.
4: Nylon 66+GF30 (Black): Compared to pure Nylon 66, this nylon is reinforced with 30% glass fiber, enhancing its heat resistance, strength, rigidity, creep resistance, dimensional stability, wear resistance, and allowing for higher maximum operating temperatures.
5: Nylon 66+MOS2 (Gray-Black): This nylon is reinforced with molybdenum disulfide, which improves its rigidity, hardness, and dimensional stability compared to Nylon 66, but decreases its impact strength. The grain formation effect of molybdenum disulfide improves the crystalline structure, enhancing both the load-bearing and wear resistance of the material.
Cast Nylon Sheet, also known as MC Nylon: English name Monomer Casting Nylon, is referred to as "Monomer Casting Nylon" in Chinese. "Replaces steel with plastic, with outstanding performance", and has extremely wide applications. It features lightweight, high strength, self-lubrication, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, insulation, and other unique properties. It is a widely used engineering plastic found almost in all industrial fields.
