Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) Main Properties of PPS ◆ [Excellent Heat Resistance] Its melting point exceeds 280℃, and the heat distortion temperature exceeds 260℃, with a long-term service temperature of 220-240℃. It degrades at 700℃ in air and retains 40% of its weight in inert gas at 1000℃. Both short-term heat resistance and long-term continuous use thermal stability surpass all current engineering plastics. Specially modified varieties can achieve a heat distortion temperature of over 350℃. ◆ [Self-Flame Retardancy] Polyphenylene sulfide can achieve UL94-0 flame retardant rating, with an oxygen index (LOI) >57%. The chemical structure of polyphenylene sulfide grants it good flame resistance without the need for added flame retardants. ◆ [Good Mechanical Properties] It has extremely high rigidity, high surface hardness, Rockwell hardness >100HR, tensile strength >170MPa, flexural strength >220MPa, notch impact strength >16MPa, flexural modulus >3.5×10^4, and exhibits excellent creep resistance and fatigue resistance. ◆ [Excellent Chemical Resistance] No solvents have been found to dissolve polyphenylene sulfide below 200℃, and it has strong resistance to inorganic acids, bases, and salts. ◆ [Good Dimensional Stability] The molding shrinkage rate is very low, less than 0.0025%, with an absorption rate of less than 0.05%, and a small linear thermal expansion coefficient. It still shows good dimensional stability under high temperature and high humidity conditions. Therefore, it has a wide range of applications in machinery, chemical industry, instrumentation, as well as aviation, aerospace, and marine sectors. ◆ [Excellent Electrical Properties] Polyphenylene sulfide maintains excellent electrical performance under high temperature, high humidity, and high frequency conditions, with volume resistivity of 1×10^16Ω.cm, surface resistivity of 1×10^15Ω, and electrical strength >18KV/mm. ◆ [Radiation Resistance] It has radiation resistance reaching Gy1×10^8, making it an unmatched new material compared to other engineering plastics, particularly ideal for applications in electronics, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, aviation, aerospace, and military fields. ◆ [Good Processing Properties] PPS resin has low melt viscosity and good flowability, making it easy to wet and contact with glass fibers. Thus, it is easy to fill with fillers, and the fiberglass or inorganic filler reinforced injection-grade particles made from it have extremely high tensile strength, impact resistance, bending strength, and ductility. It can be uniformly shaped above its melting point. ◆ [Good Adhesion to Metals and Nonmetals] PPS has very high bonding strength, especially with materials like glass, aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel, achieving a bonding strength of Grade 1. Its bonding performance with glass is excellent, making it very suitable for lining chemical equipment. Main Application Areas of PPS Electronics and Electrical: Packaging for microelectronic components, connectors, terminals, sockets, coil frames, trimmer capacitors, fuse bases. Mechanical Instruments: Pump housings, impellers, bushings, gears, pulleys, universal joints, sealing gaskets, flanges, counters, leveling instruments, flow meter components. Automotive Sector: Temperature sensors, evaporators, vapor pumps, seat bases, water tank compartments. Home Appliances: Electric fans, microwave oven brackets, dryers, coffee makers, rice cookers, hot air curlers, hair straighteners, air conditioning compressors. Military Field: Manufacturing parts for fighter jets, vertical tail fins, combustion chambers, aviation, aerospace, and vehicle connectors, coil frames, instrument panels, especially major components for stealth bombers and bombers. Parts of nuclear submarines resistant to nuclear radiation, support structures, helmets, military tents, utensils, astronaut supplies, and corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant components for ships and submarines, as well as new military vehicles developed in the United States (currently in production) and plastic tanks developed in the UK (in experimental stage), etc. Fibers and Films: Mixing PPS fibers with other synthetic fibers can produce high-performance industrial filter fabrics and radiation-resistant aerospace fabrics. PPS films are excellent insulating materials reaching F-class, suitable for making capacitors, impedance electronic components, flat coil frames, wire coatings, covers, evaporator membranes, thermal printing materials, flexible magnetic disks, and photosensitive tapes for electronic photography.
