Vecoplan Acquires Long-Term Partner Pla.to to Create Full-Process Plastic Recycling Services

Vecoplan is a supplier of plastic shredding and processing equipment and systems, and the company is currently acquiring the well-known company Pla.to GmbH, located in Görlitz, which specializes in dry cleaning and cleaning technology. Through this acquisition, Vecoplan will create an integrated service system covering the entire process from plastic shredding to advanced cleaning treatment.

In the recycling industry, companies are mostly well-acquainted with each other, and Vecoplan and Pla.to are no exception—these two companies have collaborated for many years and successfully completed numerous joint projects. Now, based on this long-term strategic partnership, Pla.to will officially become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vecoplan AG.

Vecoplan's Senior Vice President of Recycling, Martina Schmidt, stated: "With this acquisition, we are now able to provide our customers in the plastic recycling sector with a complete process combination—from material conveying, crushing, to cleaning, achieving comprehensive process coverage. In recent years, dry cleaning technology has evolved from a preparatory step in modern cleaning processes to a core component. By integrating Pla.to, we will be able to actively promote this development."

Dry Cleaning Technology: Key Links in Mechanical Recovery and Chemical Recovery

In the dry cleaning process, contaminants are removed mechanically without the need for a large consumption of water resources, ultimately resulting in extrudable plastic flakes that can be directly further processed. The importance of this resource-efficient process is continuously increasing — it is not only indispensable in the field of mechanical recycling but also a critical pre-treatment step in chemical recycling.

In addition to specialized techniques in the dry cleaning field, Pla.to also offers a full range of advanced cleaning technologies, including wet cleaning systems with friction cleaning functions and enhanced cleaning machines.

To ensure that each system can accurately match the specific needs of the customer, Vecoplan conducts tests on various materials at its in-house "Cleanikum" laboratory located in Neunkhausen, Germany. In this center, staff can test different process steps, parameter settings, and system configurations under real conditions to determine the optimal cleaning solution for each batch of materials. Therefore, before the cleaning system is delivered to the customer and put into operation, the Cleanikum laboratory ensures it possesses the highest quality and reliability.

Pla.to's headquarters will remain in Görlitz. Through this acquisition, customers will be able to enjoy multiple advantages brought by both companies, including international project management, a comprehensive service system, and each party's digital solutions. The acquisition will also enhance the joint innovation capabilities of both parties: a new series of large-scale dry cleaning systems is already in the research and development stage and will soon further enrich the product portfolio. Additionally, Vecoplan will showcase the largest dry cleaning equipment built by Pla.to for the first time at the K Show in Düsseldorf.
