Toray: Establishing a Semiconductor Technology & Materials R&D Center in Taiwan!
Taiwan is the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer and a leader in advanced semiconductor technology. The Taiwanese government has announced that it will invest 300 billion New Taiwan dollars (approximately 66.5 billion RMB) in the semiconductor industry over the next 10 years until 2033, and establish research institutes in key universities for fields such as semiconductors, to promote the development of the semiconductor industry. Taiwan has begun developing the next generation of semiconductors, including high-density, high-performance technologies like heterogeneous chip integration and 3D stacking, as well as optoelectronic fusion technology.
In this context, Toray has started collaborating with influential local companies in Taiwan to develop and sell new products, including release films for advanced packaging, multi-core optical fibers for optoelectronic fusion-related technologies, and high urea removal rate reverse osmosis membranes for wastewater reuse infrastructure products. The Toray Taiwan Technology Center will enable the company to strengthen its cooperation with research institutions and universities. This facility will work with local Toray Group companies to develop advanced semiconductor-related technologies and materials, while also fostering development technologies, products, and technical services that meet local customer needs.
Under the mid-term management plan, "AP-G 2025 Project," Toray positions its Digital Innovation (DI) business as a growth area. This business includes materials, equipment, technologies, and services that enhance convenience and productivity through digital technology penetration. The company is expanding this business by promoting cross-departmental collaboration within the group and establishing entry barriers. It will utilize the new center to accelerate product development and business expansion, leveraging changes and challenges in the semiconductor field.
Toray will continue to explore research that meets local needs through 9 research centers in Japan and 24 R&D bases overseas, creating new value that contributes to social prosperity by driving innovation in growth areas.
Overview of the Toray Taiwan Technology Center:
1. Establishment Date: March 2025
2. Location: Songshan District, Taipei City; Zhubei City, Hsinchu County
3. Focus: Research and development of semiconductor-related technologies and materials, and technical services
