The construction of a new 2 million tons/year PTA project in Xinjiang has officially started.

On March 22, 2025, the first quarter major projects of Xinjiang for the year were collectively launched. At the Urumqi sub-venue, the key project for the development of the aromatics industry by China National Petroleum Corporation's Urumqi Petrochemical Company was officially initiated.

The key projects for the development of the aromatics industry of China National Petroleum Corporation's Urumqi Petrochemical Company include the expansion and raw material supporting renovation of the aromatics unit, and the construction of a new 2 million tons/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) project.

Among them, the aromatics unit capacity expansion and raw material supporting renovation project will carry out a transformation to increase the production of naphtha and jet fuel for the existing 1.8 million tons/year diesel hydroprocessing unit. Based on the original 1 million tons/year aromatics complex equipment and facilities, a 2 million tons/year continuous reforming unit, an 800,000 tons/year aromatics extraction unit, and other units will be constructed, and adaptive modifications will be made to the existing adsorption separation and pressure swing adsorption (PSA) systems.
The construction of a 2 million tons/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) project mainly includes a 2 million tons/year PTA unit and the supporting utility and auxiliary production facilities.
