Sustainable Development | Honor: Sika Wins Second Prize for Large Enterprises in Sustainable Development Award!

Sika 2025-08-28 10:52:56

On August 27, the Sino-Swiss Business Awards Ceremony, organized by the Swiss Chinese Chamber of Commerce, was grandly held in Beijing. Numerous Sino-Swiss organizations and Swiss enterprises in China gathered together to witness the birth of the winning companies!

At the event, H.E. Andrea Caroni, President of the Council of States of the Swiss Federal Assembly, and H.E. Jürg Burri, Swiss Ambassador to China, concurrently accredited to North Korea and Mongolia, attended the grand ceremony as special guests.

Since the opening of the initial review, roadshows, and voting channels, after months of public selection and comprehensive adjudication by the organizing committee, Sika emerged from numerous participating companies and won the second prize in the Large Enterprise Sustainability Award! Mr. Li Xin, Head of the Roofing Business of Sika China's Manufacturing Division, led the team to attend the ceremony and went on stage to accept the award.

At Sika, sustainability is more than just a commitment!

In Sika, sustainability is not just a commitment, it is a part of us. We have never regarded sustainability as a trend or a goal; it is the core of our business. This is sustainable Sika...

The global industry is accelerating its transition towards an "ecological symbiosis model". As a leader in the field of specialty chemicals, Sika uses material science as a fulcrum to build a "zero-carbon factory + clean energy" dual engine, injecting momentum into carbon neutrality with quantifiable technology, becoming a benchmark example for the transformation of industrial civilization.

Zero-Carbon Factory: A Paradigm Shift in Chemical Production

In Hangzhou Bay, the Sika Pinghu production base, with an investment of 100 million USD, reconstructs the logic of chemical production with a 75% automation rate: the waste heat recovery system coupled with a thermal storage device reduces process heating energy consumption by 70% and carbon emission intensity by 60%. The 10,376 square meter photovoltaic roof generates 1 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to a yearly reduction of 400 tons of carbon.

In December 2024, the production base officially completed its foundation laying ceremony. In the first half of this year, the Sika Pinghu production base officially held the first beam hoisting ceremony, marking the official commencement of a new phase in the project construction.

Zhuji Wind Power: Breakthrough in Materials Under Extreme Scenarios

Sika’s solutions are reshaping the geographical and technological boundaries of the wind power industry: At an altitude of 5,193 meters in Saga, Tibet, SikaGrout® grouting material has withstood 150 freeze-thaw cycles in -30°C conditions, ensuring the stable operation of the world’s highest-altitude wind turbines. The annual emission reduction benefit is equivalent to the carbon sink of 26,000 hectares of forest.

In the depths of the South China Sea, the Sikadur® series adhesives, with a compressive strength of 115 MPa, support a 16.6 MW offshore wind turbine. This breakthrough allows for deep-sea development at a depth of 35 meters, with a single turbine's annual power generation reaching 54 million kWh, advancing wind power from shallow waters to the deep blue sea.

These breakthroughs not only enable the geographical expansion of clean energy but also have the potential to redefine the performance limits of marine engineering materials.

Zero-Carbon Exhibition: Actively Promoting Carbon Neutrality Practices

At the same time, Sika's sustainable development concept is implemented in various aspects. Sika China has deeply embedded the green and low-carbon concept throughout the entire exhibition process, actively promoting carbon neutrality practices — from the selection of environmentally friendly construction materials to the efficient use of energy on-site, all aspects incorporate carbon reduction considerations.

As of June this year, Sika achieved carbon neutrality for over 40 tons of total greenhouse gas emissions in its trade fair activities for the first half of 2025. Meanwhile, in 2024, all trade fairs of Sika China achieved zero carbon emissions.

This is both a fulfillment of our commitment to sustainable development and a way to build momentum for the company to reach its net-zero emissions target by 2050.

As a senior partner of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce, Sika China will continue to maintain close communication and cooperation with the chamber and all parties in the future, resolutely practicing the path of innovative sustainable development, and continue to contribute to the domestic construction and industrial sectors.
