Shanghai companies successfully transformed after the pandemic, using "Big White" protective suit materials to produce various household goods.
The products included designer handbags, women's shoulder bags, windproof rainwear outerwear, lightweight running shoes, and medical protective clothing made from "Tearaway" brand technology materials, which have the properties of lightness, waterproofness, flexibility, ease of processing, and 100% recyclability.
Mediaco, based in Pudong District, has been a long-term partner of DuPont, serving the medical device industry. During the Spring Festival of 2020, this enterprise was urgently requisitioned by the Shanghai Commission for Industry and Commerce to switch production to medical protective clothing, filling the gap of Shanghai lacking medical protective clothing manufacturers. In a very short period, the company produced 29,000 pieces of national allocation medical protective clothing and provided tens of thousands of medical protective clothing and ordinary protective clothing to Shanghai.
During the 2020 pandemic, Medico employees worked overtime to produce medical protective clothing.
After the pandemic, Meidoc began exploring the integration of technology and art. The company's management team conducted research after the pandemic, concluding that they could combine technology and cultural attributes to give "Tactical Advantage" materials more cultural properties.
After more than two years of exploration, the product line of the Meidike (Shanghai) Industrial Park has significantly increased compared to pre-pandemic times. "The exhibits in this area are various cultural and creative products we have made by combining Zhuanghang cloth with DuPont materials," Yang Zhenhua told the reporter, introducing the "technological folk cloth" exhibition area. Here, there are items such as handbags, storage bags, and cartoon dolls on display. These products retain the characteristics of Zhuanghang cloth, mainly in blue tones with highly folkloric patterns. When touched, one can feel the thick texture of the cloth. However, the inner layers and backs of these products have a modern technological feel.

The Shanghai hand-woven庄行土布, with over 700 years of history, has been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of Shanghai. To seamlessly integrate it with high-tech materials, "Tesuweiqiang," which uses a flash-steam method and spinneret粘技术, presents a challenge as the two materials have different tensile strengths. After special工艺研发 and countless trials, the company's research team successfully developed a new composite structural material that retains the texture of the soil fabric on the front and possesses waterproof, mildew-resistant, and breathable properties on the back.
"After developing 'technological homespun,' we created a series of products, encouraging local farmers to make homespun and increasing their income," said Yang Zhenhua with delight. While collaborating with intangible cultural heritage initiatives, Medico is also partnering with several well-known brands both domestically and internationally, developing clothing, running shoes, bags, and other products. These products are not only lightweight but also waterproof and breathable, bringing high-tech materials into the everyday lives of ordinary people.

Recently, this Fengxian-based enterprise has partnered with DuPont to apply another high-tech material, "Nomex," to firefighting, arc flash protection, and other scenarios. It is a meta-aramid with good heat resistance and high strength, maintaining stable performance for a long time at 250 degrees Celsius. Medico uses this material to produce firefighter suits, which are flame-retardant, tear-resistant, and abrasion-resistant. They do not burn or melt when exposed to high temperatures and flames, providing high-performance thermal protection for firefighters. The company has also developed arc flash protective clothing, which offers effective arc flash and thermal protection in scenarios such as power generation, transmission and distribution, and industrial electricity. Different types of "Nomex" fabrics are combined with personal protective equipment to meet the national standards for arc flash protection from Level 1 to Level 4. "Most specialized protective clothing uses traditional coated fabrics, which have a performance gap compared to DuPont materials. We hope to promote high-tech materials to more industries through in-depth cooperation, helping to cultivate new quality productive forces," said Yang Zhenhua.

After the pandemic, the cooperation between the two companies expanded further. MediCare adopted DuPont's probiotics to develop a probiotic solid beverage. The company hosts a public welfare activity once a month, donating probiotic products to the elderly in areas like Fotang Head Bridge Subdistrict. In Yang Zhenhua's view, this is what a company should do to fulfill its social responsibility: "During the pandemic, the government of Fotang Head Bridge mobilized social forces to help us complete our production tasks for protective clothing. Now, through these public welfare activities, we hope to give back to the government and society, and improve the health of local seniors."
