Recyclass certification leads plastic traceability sector, covering over 60% of europe's recycling capacity
The RecyClass recycling process certification system covers 60% of the operational plastic recycling capacity in Europe. Since its launch just three years ago, it has become the leading certification scheme in the field of plastic traceability in the region.
In 2024, RecyClass achieved exponential growth in the proportion of operational recycling capacity certified at the “material stream level” in Europe: 58% in the high-density polyethylene (HDPE)/polypropylene (PP) sector, 62% in the end-of-life vehicles and electronic waste (ELV-WEEE) sector, 70% in the low-density polyethylene (LDPE) sector, and 75% in the polyethylene terephthalate (PET) sector. These figures fully demonstrate the plastic recycling industry's commitment to implementing "verified, trustworthy" recycling standards, thereby providing high-quality recycled materials to the upstream and downstream of the industry chain.
The importance of certification
Currently, RecyClass has collaborated with 11 "accredited" third-party certification bodies and 7 "recognized" third-party certification bodies, with a flexible team of over 120 auditors, all qualified to issue "recycling process certification certificates." In light of the legislative goals for recycled plastics outlined in the Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), Recycling companies that need to demonstrate their operational traceability and wish to transparently disclose the sources of plastic waste can apply for relevant certification.
Paolo Glerean, Chairman of RecyClass, emphasized, "The continuous development of this certification system clearly demonstrates that RecyClass's initiatives to promote a circular economy for plastics are yielding tangible results. Today, RecyClass recycling process certification has become an industry benchmark for companies to certify their recycling processes and comply with the EN 15343:2007 standard."
