Pulp giant Suzano: Will further strengthen investment in China with a focus on innovative applications of bio-based materials
On March 18, Beto Abreu, the global CEO of Suzano, said in an interview with Jiemian News and other media that the company plans to further increase its investment in China, focusing on the innovative application of bio-based materials, the construction of logistics infrastructure, and local partnerships.
In addition, Suzano also plans to expand the procurement of equipment and production raw materials in China. Abreu said, "We have visited many potential suppliers in China and are pleased to find that Chinese suppliers are already capable of providing a wide variety of equipment and products for Suzano." To implement this plan, Suzano is currently forming a dedicated team to promote the integration of more Chinese suppliers into its global supply chain.
Suzano is a major global producer of commodity pulp. In 2024, Suzano's pulp and paper sales reached 12.3 million tons, an increase of 7% year-on-year, setting a sales record.
In September 2024, Suzano held the Suzano Bioeconomy Conference in Shanghai and signed a landmark cooperation agreement with Ningbo Actem New Material Co., Ltd., a leading rubber additive producer in China, during the event. According to the agreement, both parties will work together to achieve the commercial application of Suzano's EcoligTM products in Actem's rubber products.
As a global large-scale commodity pulp producer, Suzano is committed to the innovative research and development and production of renewable, eucalyptus-based materials for consumer and industrial applications. The company's reliable products are exported to more than 100 countries/regions, playing a significant role in the daily lives of over 2 billion people, providing a diverse range of products including commodity pulp, printing and writing paper, tissues, paper cups and straws, cardboard packaging, toilet paper, and textile raw materials, as well as fluff pulp products used in diapers and feminine hygiene products.
The Suzano Biobased Products division has developed a multifunctional biobased product, Suzano EcoligTM, based on lignin. This product features high antioxidant properties, UV radiation absorption, and adhesion, combining sustainability with high performance. It can be used in applications such as rubber products, plywood, asphalt, and even cosmetics.
