Olin And Mitsui Chemicals Plan To Dissolve Trade Joint Venture
On September 24, Specialized Plastics News reported that by the end of 2025, Olin Corporation and Mitsui Chemicals plan to dissolve their trading joint venture, Blue Water Alliance. Olin stated that this move is part of its strategy to become more actively involved in the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) value chain. However, both parties are open to future collaboration on "strategic opportunities."
Currently,Blue Water Alliance sells caustic soda, potassium hydroxide, and the precursor for polyvinyl chloride (PVC), 1,2-dichloroethane (EDC), globally. These products primarily come from excess capacity at Olin Corporation. However, Olin has indicated that it is currently considering building its own PVC production facility in the United States and has already begun supplying EDC to Kem One to support the latter's PVC production. Deon Carter, the head of the relevant business department, stated that as a result, Olin plans to gradually increase the proportion of internal use of this raw material (EDC).
