GCR sustainable plastic solutions have started operating a polyolefin recycling plant in Castellet i la Gornal, near Barcelona, Spain. The plant can recycle 130,000 tons of polyolefins annually, making it one of the largest plastic recycling plants in Europe. The company claims that the planning and construction of this plant took six years.

The factory can recycle 100,000 tons of post-consumer polyolefins and 30,000 tons of post-industrial polyolefins annually, and it is equipped with Erema production lines and Tomra optical sorters, as well as the largest high-purity recycled plastic hot washing capacity in Europe. The new capacity of this factory will be integrated into GCR's Ciclic recycled polyolefin product portfolio and Granic series of additive masterbatches and modified products. The Ciclic product portfolio includes recycled HDPE, recycled LDPE, recycled LLDPE, and recycled PP. GCR has a total annual production capacity of 500,000 tons, with 85% of its products exported to over 100 countries (source: Sustainable Plastics; image: AI).

Spain is becoming a hub for plastic recycling in Europe, and Kingfa Science & Technology has recently put its recycled polyolefin production line into operation.
