First SUV! Ora Cat Is Here

On September 11, ORA announced that its first all-electric SUV is about to debut. From the official teaser image, the new car might be the recently announced ORA Cat, continuing the design philosophy of the "Cat" family. The vehicle's size is larger compared to the ORA Good Cat and it will be equipped with hardware such as LiDAR to enhance driving assistance capabilities.

Based on the design drawings submitted by Ora Cat, the overall styling of the vehicle continues the design language of the Ora "Cat." The front face features round headlights, and the front end adopts a layered design with prominent lines. The front bumper is equipped with a large trapezoidal cooling intake, accompanied by vertically arranged ventilation openings on both sides. From the side view, the charging port is located on the right front fender, and the shapes of the front and rear fenders present a wide-body visual effect. At the rear, the overall design is similar to the Ora Haomao, equipped with a roof spoiler that integrates a high-mounted brake light. The taillight group continues to be designed to blend into the rear window glass. The tailgate center bears the "GWM" badge, with "Ora Cat" on the left side and "Great Wall Motors" on the right. In terms of dimensions, the new car measures 4471/1833 (1844) /1641 mm in length, width, and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 2720 mm.

In terms of power, the Ora Cat will be equipped with a motor from Hunan Hive Transmission Technology Co., Ltd., with a maximum power of 150kW, paired with a Hunan Hive Energy LFP short blade battery.

Ora is currently the most challenging brand for Great Wall Motors. Since its establishment in 2018, it has been tasked with the important mission of transitioning Great Wall Motors into the new energy vehicle sector. Ora established the brand positioning of "loving women more," precisely targeting the female car market segment. Models like the Black Cat, White Cat, and Good Cat quickly became popular in the 100,000 RMB level electric vehicle market due to their cute appearance and high cost-performance ratio. However, due to profit considerations, Great Wall Motors discontinued the Black Cat and White Cat, leaving only the Ora Good Cat model. This strategy led to a sharp decline in Ora's brand sales. Subsequently, Ora launched the Ballet Cat and Lightning Cat models, which failed to capture the market due to their higher pricing. Since 2023, Ora has not launched any new models, seemingly pressing the pause button on the rapidly developing new energy vehicle track. Currently, Ora's available models include the Ora Good Cat, Ora Lightning Cat, and Ora Ballet Cat, with the main sales coming from the Ora Good Cat. Retail data shows that from January to August 2025, Ora's cumulative sales were 14,781 units, with the Ora Good Cat accounting for 14,290 units, while the other two models each sold only a few hundred units.

Since 2023, this is the first new model launched by ORA, positioned above the ORA Good Cat, and its expected price is also above the ORA Good Cat. On June 27, the 2025 ORA Good Cat was officially launched, with a total of three models priced between 79,800 to 99,800 yuan. Therefore, it is estimated that the starting price of the ORA Cat will be around 90,000 yuan, but it could be higher. According to media reports, ORA plans to rebuild independent channels, and Great Wall Motors is planning at least four new ORA brand products, with new products having different positioning and channel strategies than before. According to insiders, ORA's future positioning will be more unique, emphasizing technology and being more hardcore. Future new products from ORA will continue some family design elements but will not return to a low-price positioning, nor will they focus solely on the female market.
