CTK Bio Launches Multiple Eco-Friendly Resins to Address Canada Single-Use Plastics Ban

Plastmatch Global Digest 2025-08-11 11:09:41

With the comprehensive ban on single-use plastic products coming into effect in Canada, Canadian materials science company CTK Bio has launched an end-to-end solutions platform aimed at helping businesses transition from traditional plastics.

CTK Biotech states that the platform can provide certified materials, finished products, product development support, and production integration services, which are delivered through its global network of processors in North America and Asia.

The company's goal is to ensure that businesses meet regulatory requirements without sacrificing product performance or commercial scalability.

According to Canada's federal Single-Use Plastics Prohibition Regulations (SUPPR), products such as checkout bags, cutlery, straws, stir sticks, ring carriers, and polystyrene containers are now banned. CTK Bio Inc. states that its product line "provides a direct path to compliance," with sustainable materials developed to meet regulatory standards while also supporting broader environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.

Daniel Shum, COO of CTK Biotech, stated, "What businesses need are practical solutions—not theoretical materials or 'greenwashing' publicity (greenwashing refers to the practice where companies mislead the public into believing their products or operations are environmentally friendly when in fact they are not). Our platform offers them scalable, commercially viable options that comply with current regulatory requirements."

CTK Bio stated that each material is specially designed to integrate directly into existing production processes, making it easier and faster for manufacturers and brands to adopt these materials. Specifically, it includes:

Compostable materialsContains no polylactic acid (PLA), made from materials that are naturally biodegradable and compostable.

Recyclable materialsMade without virgin plastics, composed of post-consumer and post-industrial recycled plastics, and recyclable.

Bio-based content materialsContains no virgin plastics, made by combining recycled materials with biomass waste, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Paper lining materialMade without polylactic acid (PLA) and virgin plastics, it is based on paper and coated with CTK Bio's proprietary compostable coating, providing compostability.

CTK Bio Company was established in 2020, providing scalable "plug-and-play" solutions for the food service, packaging, cosmetics, and consumer goods industries.
