Cortec Launches 100% Biobased Packaging Film

Plastmatch Global Digest 2025-08-20 14:51:21

Cortec® has launched its latest bioplastic product, achieving great success in bio-based components! Eco Works® 100 is a certified industrial compostable packaging film (TÜV Austria, #TA8012509046) containing 100% USDA-certified bio-based components, offering an alternative to petroleum-based products.

In a world where many are seeking environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional plastics, Eco Works® 100 offers a diverse portfolio of market bioplastics for those looking to maximize biobased content and reduce reliance on petroleum.

Can be composted in industrial environments

Eco Works® 100 is committed to addressing sustainability issues at both ends of the product life cycle. Initially, Eco Works® 100 uses renewable raw materials to manufacture bioplastics with 100% biobased content. Ultimately, Eco Works® 100 can decompose in industrial composting facilities alongside organic waste without causing ecotoxicity to the soil.

This innocuousness is demonstrated by growing sunflower seeds in a mixture of 50% blank compost and 50% compost made from Eco Works® 100 resin. After two weeks, pots with Eco Works® compost showed almost the same germination rates and seedling growth yields compared to the control. The results for the 25% Eco Works® compost samples were also excellent, meeting the requirements of ASTM D6400.

Large amounts of compostable renewable content

With the tightening of government regulations and the strengthening of the sustainability trend, options for compostable and bio-based plastics now range from compostable disposable tableware to bio-based mailers.

Although Cortec® contributes to the diversity of its bioplastic product portfolio through a range of specialty bioplastics—including industrial compostable stretch films, shrink packaging, corrosion-inhibiting films, and organic waste collection bags—Eco Works® 100 fills a unique position that many bioplastics do not, thanks to its high level of renewable content and compostability. Therefore, Eco Works® 100 offers a key opportunity to produce a range of 100% biobased bags—whether for shopping, waste management, or various other industrial or commercial uses—that can easily meet the requirements for industrial compostable material certification.
