Cortec Launches 100% Biobased Packaging Film

Eco Works® 100 is committed to addressing sustainability issues at both ends of the product life cycle. Initially, Eco Works® 100 uses renewable raw materials to manufacture bioplastics with 100% biobased content. Ultimately, Eco Works® 100 can decompose in industrial composting facilities alongside organic waste without causing ecotoxicity to the soil.

This innocuousness is demonstrated by growing sunflower seeds in a mixture of 50% blank compost and 50% compost made from Eco Works® 100 resin. After two weeks, pots with Eco Works® compost showed almost the same germination rates and seedling growth yields compared to the control. The results for the 25% Eco Works® compost samples were also excellent, meeting the requirements of ASTM D6400.

With the tightening of government regulations and the strengthening of the sustainability trend, options for compostable and bio-based plastics now range from compostable disposable tableware to bio-based mailers.
