CATL CTO Gao Huan: The value of vehicles and batteries should be separated, and it is unacceptable to overly sacrifice the reliability of battery products for the sake of ultra-fast charging.
IT HomeOn March 31, it was reported that the China Electric Vehicle 100 Forum (2025) was held in Beijing from March 28 to March 30. Ningde Times CTO Gao Huan attended and delivered a speech.
Gao Huan believes that due to the professionalism and high value of power batteries, they have far exceeded the experience and system of traditional automotive parts. To significantly improve the user's after-sales experience,The value of the vehicle and the battery should be separated, with the battery bank holding the battery assets. As the model of separating vehicles from batteries and the battery bank ecosystem gradually mature, batteries could become an investment product in the future, giving rise to new business models and unleashing more economic and social value.
IT House noticed that Gao Huan pointed out that the total ownership of new energy vehicles in China has exceeded 35 million. With the rapid development and reshuffle of the industry, many consumers have encountered battery after-sales problems, such as rapid decay, difficult maintenance, difficult battery replacement, high cost, high insurance, and even rejection of insurance sometimes.
At the same time, Gao Huan noted that battery safety remains a major concern and source of worry for the public. "A series of recent thermal runaway incidents involving electric vehicles have led to many public spaces, such as underground parking lots, banning the entry of new energy vehicles. This has further eroded public trust in electric vehicles," Gao Huan emphasized particularly.Excessive use of supercharging that compromises product reliability, lifespan, safety, or even energy density is not advisable.。
Gao Huan mentioned: "Currently, we have successfully reduced the safety failure rate of battery cells to a level of 1 in 100 million, improving it by three orders of magnitude. The industry is now rapidly moving towards the era of intelligence, in order to welcome the arrival of L3 and L4."We have also made adequate technical preparations in terms of the safety, reliability, intelligence, and compatibility of power batteries.。”
Gao Huan said: "In the future, we will continue to iterate on products across brands such as Kirin, Shenxing, Xiaoyao, and Tianxing."Bringing more surprises to consumers. At the same time, we are also continuously launching new products in emerging scenarios such as ships and the low-altitude economy. In the future, as next-generation technologies including sodium-ion batteries, M3P, solid-state batteries, and products mature, even more scenarios will be unlocked."
