Latest Study: New Nickel Catalyst Unveiled, May End Plastic Recycling Pre-Sorting Dilemma
The era of pre-sorting mixed plastic waste may soon come to an end, thanks to a low-cost catalyst made from nickel, which can precisely "tackle" one of the most intractable plastic polymers we face. The relevant research results were published in the journal Nature Chemistry on September 2nd. Despite decades of global efforts dedicated to plastic recycling, this work still remains in the stage of "easier said than done". This frustrating reality is largely attributed to a class of polymers called polyolefins. Humans produce approximately 220 million tons of polyolefin-based products annually, most of which are disposable items such as seasoning bottles, milk jugs, plastic wrap, garbage bags, and juice boxes.
Study Reveals Sunscreen Chemicals Hinder Plastic Breakdown in Oceans
Scientists at the University of Stirling have carried out the first study into co-pollution – where plastics in the sea act as carriers for other chemical contaminants, including ultraviolet (UV) filters from sunscreen.
A chemical commonly found in sunscreen could be making plastic in oceans even harder to break down, according to University of Stirling research.

Jefferies: Indian Banks Can Manage the Impact of U.S. Tariffs
Investment bank Jefferies said that the direct and indirect impact of the U.S. 50% tariff on Indian exports on lenders is likely to be controllable, as their exposure only accounts for 4% to 6%. Analysts including Prakhar Sharma wrote in a report: "Our communications with senior management indicate that they are concerned but not fearful, as the impact is limited to specific areas, and the government or the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) can provide subsidies."
