Borealis Belgium's Recycled Polyolefin Composite Production Line Officially Commences Operations
On September 28th, it was learned by Zhuansushi World that Borealis' new recycled polyolefin composite production line in Beringen, Belgium, has officially commenced operations.
The project will be publicly announced for the first time in June 2024. The newly constructed semi-commercial composite production line utilizes Borealis' Borcycle M technology, which can blend post-consumer polyolefins with virgin polyolefins to produce composite materials of rigid polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE).
Craig Arnold, Executive Vice President of Nordic Chemical Polyolefins, Basic Chemicals, and Circular Economy Solutions, stated: "This production line is not only a technological milestone but also a clear commitment to our customers. By expanding the supply of high-quality recycled feedstock, we are helping our partners accelerate their circular transition."
Currently, Borealis is operating two polypropylene (PP) plants and a compounding plant at the Beringen site, with a total polyolefin production capacity of 385,000 tons per year.
This new production line will help Borealis expand the scale of its Borcycle mechanical recycling technology, while also supporting customers in co-developing and testing new solutions to promote the application of recycled plastics in high-value fields.
Previously, Nordic Chemicals has acquired two companies: one is Integra Plastics AD, a Bulgarian company specializing in the mechanical recycling of polyolefins, and the other is Rialti S.p.A., an Italian producer of recycled polypropylene compounds.
