BASF's Three Major Project Updates: Battery Materials, Polyamides, and Pesticides Progressing in Tandem
Color Masterbatch Industry Network 2025-03-22 10:34:48

Recently, BASF has consecutively announced updates on three major projects, which cover areas such as battery materials, polyamides, and pesticides, demonstrating its broad layout and strong capabilities in the chemical industry.

In terms of battery materials, the second phase project of BASF Shanshan Battery Materials Co., Ltd.'s Changsha base officially commenced production in June 2024. According to information from the masterbatch industry network, the project mainly produces high-nickel cathode materials for automotive use, with an annual production capacity increased to about 100,000 tons. BASF Shanshan's Chief Operating Officer, Peng Wenjie, revealed that the company has always been focused on independent research and development, successfully solving the problem of structural collapse of lithium cobalt oxide under high voltage, and was the first in the industry to launch 4.45V lithium cobalt oxide. In addition, the company has successively developed ternary materials for nickel-rich solid-state batteries and launched a new sodium battery material product system to meet the rapidly growing production needs of the global battery industry.

In the polyamide field, BASF and Anhui Well Low Carbon Technology Co., Ltd. (WAL) have jointly developed a commercial vehicle plastic gas tank. This gas tank uses BASF's high-performance Ultramid® polyamide material, which is 20% lighter than aluminum alternatives and more than 50% lighter compared to steel. At the same time, the production process of this gas tank is more energy-efficient, using an integrated injection molding process that eliminates the secondary welding steps typically required for metal versions. The gas tank not only exhibits excellent rigidity, weld seam strength, and UV resistance but also has high burst pressure resistance, meeting the stringent requirements of the application.

In the field of pesticides, Limin Shares' subsidiary De Yan Zhi Chuang has reached a strategic cooperation intention with BASF. During the visit of Mr. Livio Tedesche, Global President of BASF Agricultural Solutions, to China, both parties signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement to jointly promote the development, registration, and commercialization process of new pesticides in China. Previously, the management teams of both sides had conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the creation of new pesticides in Beijing, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation.
