Are there already so many pure electric sedans available for 100,000 yuan?
If last year's approach for car manufacturers was "embracing the fuel tank," then this year's keyword has shifted to "fully transitioning to electric."
The wave of electrification has swept from high-end to entry-level.
The 100,000-level family sedan has always been a strategic stronghold contested by car manufacturers.
Despite the fact that BYD and XPeng MONA M03 have already established their foothold here, new players continue to enter the market one after another, and prices keep dropping, even reaching below 100,000 yuan.
In this issue, we'll take a look at the mainstream electric sedans in the 100,000 yuan range. If you plan to purchase a car soon, feel free to check out our recommendations.
Basic Parameters
Based on the sales chart, we selected Leapmotor B01, BYD Qin L EV, Xiaopeng MONA M03, and Aion RT.
In terms of configuration, we selected the most popular models Qin L EV, MONA M03, and Aion RT. Considering the price, for Leapmotor B01, we chose its "fully equipped" version.
Choose who to make room for
From the perspective of parameters, the Aion RT has the largest body size, which also indicates that it will have a larger seating space.
In terms of storage space, each company has its own unique features.
The Leapmotor B01 continues the design of the previous B10, with six holes "dug" on the passenger's dashboard. The six magic expansion docks and one rectangular groove structure allow for the free combination of accessories such as folding tabletops, phone holders, storage boxes, cup holders, and hangers.
The XPeng MONA M03, which features a hatchback design and a front-mounted motor, has a significant advantage in storage capacity. Even in its default state, it offers 600 liters of storage space, and if the rear seats are folded down, it can be expanded to 1600 liters.
However, due to its fastback design, we previously found during our actual experience of the rear seat that if your height exceeds 1.8 meters, your head might touch the ceiling.
It is also worth mentioning that after removing the engine, the Qin L EV provides a 65L front trunk, which is very practical for grocery shopping or storing items with odors.
Choose who to drive.
In terms of powertrain, both the Leapmotor B01 and Qin L EV adopt a single motor rear-wheel-drive layout, which is more performance-oriented, and their "keyboard values" are relatively higher.
The XPeng MONA M03 and Aion RT both opted for the more "grocery shopping" front-engine, front-wheel-drive configuration, which is also one of the reasons they have larger trunks.
From the data, the motor power of the four cars is also similar, but Leapmotor has a lighter curb weight, making it the only one with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time under 7 seconds.
In terms of chassis structure, the rear-wheel-drive models from Leapmotor and BYD both use a multi-link structure in the rear suspension.
Leapmotor has put considerable effort into driving control. According to the official statement, it has been jointly tuned by top teams from China and Europe, adopting a 50:50 axle load ratio, and has even incorporated blowout stabilization control technology at this level.
Xpeng and Aion have adopted the torsion beam solution, which may not perform as well on complex road surfaces compared to models with independent suspension.
For intelligence, who should you choose?
In terms of intelligence, for the cockpit chip, Leapmotor is using the flagship 8295 chip, BYD is using the "legacy" self-developed D100, XPeng is using the 8155, and Aion has not disclosed the model.
In terms of connected vehicles, only BYD among several cars supports 5G, which makes the hotspot speed and the in-car network speed more advantageous.
In terms of smartphone connectivity support, the Aion RT has the best compatibility, supporting Carlink and HUAWEI HiCar, and it is also the only model among these cars that supports CarPlay.
If you care about the assisted driving capability, then the Leapmotor B01 is undoubtedly the most worthy model to consider in this price range.
It is equipped with the same Leapmotor Pilot assisted driving system as other higher-end models of Leapmotor, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8650 chip and hardware such as LiDAR. It supports functions like highway NOA, urban memory navigation, and cross-level memory parking.
It is worth mentioning that currently only Leapmotor B01 and B10 models with LiDAR solutions are priced under 120,000 yuan.
BYD is equipped with the Tian Shen Zhi Yan C advanced driver assistance system, featuring capabilities such as highway NOA and valet parking.
The entry-level driving assistance features in the Plus version of the XPeng MONA M03 include basic functions such as ACC and automatic parking. However, the newly launched Max version this year comes equipped with the same visual driving assistance system as models like the G9 and P7+, supporting advanced functions like highway/city NOA and valet parking.
Finally, the Aion RT, in the "650 Zhixiang Edition" we compared, its assisted driving configuration is "three-no": no urban NOA, no highway NOA, and no automatic parking function, only supports cruise control.
However, the Aion RT also offers you the "right to choose intelligent driving." If you are willing to pay extra, you can opt for its "Lidar version" model.
The "LiDAR version" of Aion RT is equipped with Orin X chips and LiDAR, and it uses the same high-level assisted driving systems as the Tian Shen Zhi Yan-B and IM AD, featuring the Momenta large model. It also supports functions such as highway/city NOA, automatic parking, and memory parking.
Who to choose for configuration?
In the end, it's a competition of configurations. It is clear that all four cars in this price range are "precisely targeted."
Among them, the "fully equipped" Leapmotor B01 is considered "generous in quantity and satisfying," offering the most comfort features and being the most well-equipped. It is also one of the few models in this class that provides an electric sunshade.
Overall, the second is the XPeng MONA M03, which has more comprehensive seat functions, and features such as an electric tailgate, wireless phone charging, and vehicle summon are also included.
BYD Qin L chose to allocate money to the unique central safety airbag, which others don't have, and also used physical door handles, essentially "spending money where it matters."
Finally, there is the Aion RT, which focuses on offering more space and long range, but its comfort features are just "adequate."
Finally
I believe that by this point, everyone should have a more detailed understanding of these four cars. Finally, here's a "quick version" summary:
For those seeking functionality, fully-loaded comfort configurations, high smart hardware, and a certain level of driving pleasure, the Leapmotor B01 is recommended. You can even choose a more entry-level model based on your needs to save budget.
If you want a design that is calm and offers a balanced experience, choose the BYD Qin L EV. It provides a front trunk and more airbags, making it very suitable for household use.
If you want a large storage space, strong practicality, and good looks, choose the XPeng MONA M03. It features a 600L liftback trunk and an intelligent cockpit that keeps up with the times. The Max version also offers advanced driver assistance.
If you are looking for large space, long range, and Apple ecosystem connectivity, choose the Aion RT. However, I would recommend that users with sufficient budget upgrade to the lidar version.
