According to the latest data from Chinese customs, China imported a total of 15.3 billion US dollars worth of aluminum and its products in 2024.
  • China is the third largest importer of aluminum and its products in the world.
  • First place: United States ($28.31 billion, 2024 data)
  • Second place: Germany (USD 208.9 billion, 2023 data)
Overall, the main sources are five countries, each exporting over $1 billion worth of aluminum and related products to China.
  • Russia, with a total import value of $3.58 billion, is China's largest source of imports for aluminum and its products, contributing nearly a quarter (23.8%) of the total import volume.
  • Malaysia, total imports amount to 2.21 billion USD.
  • Japan, total import volume of 1.13 billion US dollars
  • South Korea, total imports of $1.09 billion
  • Thailand, total import value 1.02 billion.
The above five countries collectively contributed to approximately 60.1% of the total import value.
Sixth, the United States exported $620 million worth of products to China (accounting for 4.1% of the total import volume), of which about one-third of the export products were aluminum scrap and fragments ($270 million).
China's imports of aluminum and its products include five major categories worth $13.65 billion, accounting for about 90.8% of the total import value. These five categories are:
  • Primary aluminum ingots (Harmonized System code - 760110)
  • Aluminum scrap and shavings (Customs Code - 760200)
  • Aluminum alloy ingots (HS Code-760120)
  • Rectangular aluminum alloy plates (HS code-760120)
