496.22 Km/h Sets New Global Car Speed Record, Yangwang U9 Xtreme Limited to 30 Units Worldwide
Recently, YangWang Auto officially announced that its YangWang U9 track special edition model has been named YangWang U9 Xtreme (abbreviated as YangWang U9X) and will be globally limited to 30 units, with each offering a unique vehicle customization plan. In August this year, the car, as an engineering test vehicle, set a global electric vehicle speed record. Just a month later, the YangWang U9X broke the limit again, replacing fuel cars to top the global automobile speed rankings with a new achievement of 496.22 km/h. Additionally, YangWang Auto announced the YangWang U9X's first lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany — 6 minutes 59.157 seconds, showcasing the breakthrough in compatibility between top-speed performance and track handling of Chinese new energy vehicles in the global high-performance automotive field, embodying the brand spirit of "Surpassing the Ultimate, Unprecedented".
The naming of "U9X" is derived from the English word "extreme," meaning limit and ultimate. The letter "X" signifies the unknown and boundaries. Together, "Xtreme" symbolizes the U9X's spirit of exploration, breaking boundaries and pursuing the extreme. Unlike the current U9, which is positioned as versatile for racing, street, and play, balancing everyday comfort with track driving fun, the U9X focuses on ultimate track performance. It has undergone comprehensive track-oriented upgrades in both software and hardware, unleashing the formidable capabilities of an all-electric supercar in track scenarios.
The Yangwang U9X is equipped with the world's first mass-produced all-domain 1200V ultra-high voltage platform, featuring four high-performance motors with speeds of up to 30,000 rpm. It uses top-tier materials such as high-strength aerospace aluminum casing, high-speed bearings, and a 970 MPa rotor. The vehicle's total horsepower exceeds 3000 Ps, with a power-to-weight ratio reaching 1217 Ps/t, achieving multiple performance indicators at a global leading level. Building on this foundation, the new innovative "body posture control" technology, derived from the same roots as the current Yangwang U9, has been introduced into the racetrack scenario. This not only realizes a qualitative leap in performance beyond theoretical data but also redefines physical limits, enabling both top speed and lap performance to be balanced within the same product, embodying the pinnacle of performance in pure electric supercars.
To match the dynamic performance of a fully evolved track, the Yangwang U9X has restructured its entire cooling system, employing a high-flow oil pump and a three-dimensional motor cooling solution, resulting in a 133% increase in total cooling system power to ensure stable peak performance throughout. The track-level blade battery, through optimization of the cell and internal resistance, combined with a new dual-layer cooling structure, achieves an ultra-high discharge rate of 30C and extreme heat dissipation efficiency, comprehensively enhancing the Yangwang U9X's discharge acceleration and recovery deceleration capabilities, setting a benchmark for lithium iron phosphate battery performance.
Moreover, the braking system of the Yangwang U9X has been significantly enhanced. The Yangwang U9X is newly equipped with a titanium alloy carbon-ceramic braking system, with an upgraded carbon-ceramic brake disc featuring a perforated and slotted design, which significantly improves friction and heat dissipation efficiency. The titanium alloy calipers not only reduce the unsprung mass but also provide precise and responsive brake pedal feel, and their low thermal conductivity further eliminates the risk of brake fluid boiling. For the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, the Yangwang U9X has deeply calibrated the Easy Four electric braking algorithm, effectively reducing mechanical braking load. In tests on the 177 corners of the Nürburgring, the Yangwang U9X achieved consistent braking performance without any degradation, showcasing top-notch braking stability.
To meet the stringent demands of track extreme conditions on tires, the Yangwang team, based on extensive data results from the 2024 Nürburgring and high-speed testing, has collaborated with Giti to custom-develop the GitiSport e·GTR² ᴾᴿᴼ semi-slick tires. These track-level tires utilize ultra-high-strength aramid fibers, commonly used in bulletproof vests, effectively suppressing high-speed centrifugal expansion. The strength can break through the 500 km/h speed barrier, ensuring stability during ultra-high-speed driving. The asymmetric track tread design significantly enhances cornering grip performance while also ensuring quick drainage on wet surfaces. Additionally, the key transition area from the bead to the sidewall has been structurally reinforced and optimized to support ultra-high G-value steady-state cornering, comprehensively ensuring high-speed handling and safety.
The dual-dimensional breakthrough in speed and lap time achieved by the Yangwang U9X sets a new milestone in the technological development of new energy vehicles, marking Chinese brands as the undisputed leaders in the global high-performance automotive sector. With only 30 units available worldwide, each Yangwang U9X becomes a rare collectible that embodies cutting-edge technology and collectible value, showcasing China's automotive industry's remarkable leap to the world with its ultimate supercar status.
