On September 16, according to foreign media reports, due to the uncontrollable number of car thefts in the UK, the country has come up with a new solution.
The report mentions that in the UK, there are on average 11 car thefts per hour, while car crime is very rare in China. Industry insiders indicate that this is a "rapid learning process" for Chinese car companies.
The anti-theft features of cars exported from China to the UK have increased, including simple mechanical devices such as anti-theft wheel nuts and an additional layer of steel around the car door locks, as well as software systems for detecting and preventing illegal entry.
According to local regulations, new models exported to the UK must undergo a risk assessment conducted by a professional organization on behalf of the insurance company. The assessment tests include a two-minute "anti-tampering test." The test results indicate that several Chinese models need to strengthen their anti-theft performance.
In recent years, the problem of car theft in the UK has shown a significant upward trend and has become a focal point of concern for society and the insurance industry.
In 2023, there were approximately 64,000 cars stolen in the UK, an increase of about 5% compared to the previous year, making it one of the countries with the highest number of car thefts in Europe.
In addition to the increase in number, theft methods have also changed. Traditional methods such as breaking locks or windows are gradually being replaced by electronic means. Many cases involve keyless entry systems or onboard electronic systems being hacked, making high-end models and locally popular vehicles the preferred targets for thieves.
Not only in the UK, but also in Italy, France, Spain, and Germany, car theft is equally serious.
