Shisuoke: Innovative Calcium Silicate–Reinforced PEEK Spinal Fusion Cage Approved
On March 31, Solvay Specialty Polymers, together with Shanghai Rejoin Medical Devices, launched an innovative calcium silicate-composite PEEK spinal interbody fusion device featuring Zeniva® PEEK biomaterial. Suitable for multi-level cervical, thoracic, and lumbar interbody fusion procedures, this product addresses the stress shielding issue caused by the excessively high elastic modulus of traditional titanium alloy cages and overcomes the poor osteogenic properties of pure PEEK material. The device has now received NMPA approval and is officially on the market, offering a new material solution for clinical spinal surgery.

Syensqo was spun off from Solvay Group in December 2023 and is a global leader in specialty chemicals, with dual listings on Euronext Brussels and Euronext Paris. The company employs over 13,000 people worldwide and reported net sales of €6.6 billion for the full year 2024. Syensqo is primarily focused on specialty polymers and composites, offering 35 product brands and over 1,500 high-performance materials. Core products such as Zeniva® PEEK and Solef® PVDF are widely used in high-end manufacturing sectors including medical implants, aerospace, lithium-ion batteries, and semiconductors, securing Syensqo a prominent position in the global high-performance materials market.
Ten-thousand-ton-level PVDF project related
On March 25, the Changshu Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee announced that it plans to approve the environmental impact assessment for the technical transformation project of Solsico Special Polymers (Changshu) Co., Ltd. This project involves the upgrade and expansion of the fluoropolymer production line, with a total investment of 35 million yuan, located in the Changshu New Materials Industrial Park. The plan is to purchase 162 sets of new equipment, including valves, instruments, and coolers. After the completion of the project, the company will have an annual production capacity of 12,500 tons of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and 4,000 tons of fluoroelastomer, as well as 25,657 tons of hydrochloric acid as a by-product and corresponding intermediate products. As the core fluoropolymer production entity of Solsico in China, the company's products mainly supply the fields of new energy, semiconductors, and medical devices. It is understood that this expansion will directly enhance Solsico's supply capacity in the domestic PVDF and fluoroelastomer markets, strengthening its production capacity advantages in the global fluoropolymer sector.
Global market product price adjustment

From the expansion of domestic ten-thousand-ton-level PVDF production capacity, to the commercialization of high-end medical PEEK products, and then to global price adjustments and material layout in the new energy sector, SISO continuously advances the synchronized implementation of capacity, market, and technology in its high-performance materials business. This further consolidates its market competitiveness in high-growth areas such as medical, new energy, and semiconductors.
