Daily Review: Cost Trends Rise, Polyester Chip Market Steady With A Warm Bias
Market Overview: On April 2, 2026, the polyester chip market adjusted slightly higher. In the Jiangsu-Zhejiang area, the negotiated transaction price for semi-bright polyester chips was around 7,680 yuan/ton, remaining unchanged from the previous working day. The negotiated transaction price for bright polyester chips was 7,850 yuan/ton, rising by 0.26% compared to the previous working day. Considering the significant decline in costs yesterday, some enterprises adjusted their prices downward today. However, crude oil prices remained higher, driving the raw material market to a slightly warm and fluctuating trend. Overall support remained, and some enterprises adjusted their prices slightly upward. Downstream buyers mainly maintained a cautious and observation-based approach, with limited fluctuations in the overall transaction center.
On the supply side, the average operating rate of the polyester chip industry is around 82.93%.
Upstream market: International oil prices rose significantly during the day, with a preference for cost-side support. The PTA domestic trade market in East China moved upward, with prices around 6,670 yuan/ton; the ethylene glycol market operated in a slightly warm manner, with spot prices in the East China market around 5,220 yuan/ton.
Market Outlook: Following Trump’s speech, geopolitical tensions remain highly uncertain. Meanwhile, the IEA has warned that the global oil supply deficit in April will widen significantly, indicating an ongoing supply crisis. Baichuan Intelligence forecasts that international crude oil prices will likely trade with a bullish bias in the near term. Supported by favorable cost factors but constrained by weak demand, the polyester chip market is expected to experience range-bound adjustments tomorrow. In the Jiangsu-Zhejiang region, the price range for semi-dull chips is anticipated to be RMB 7,500–7,900 per metric ton, while that for bright chips is expected to be RMB 7,700–8,200 per metric ton.
