The Scales of Model Railways Explained Scale Z - Scale Z is little used, with a track width of 6.5 mm, it is the smallest regular scale. The ratio is 1:220. Scale N - Scale N is the second most common scale in European model railroads after Scale H0. Scale N was standardized in 1964 and has a track width of 9 mm. N stands for nine millimeters, as nine begins with N in most languages. Current manufacturers of Scale N are: Arnold, Fleischmann, Hobbytrain, Kato, Liliput, PIKO, and Trix. Scale H0 - Scale H0 is the most widely used scale in Swiss model railroads. The standard gauge has a ratio of 1:87 and a track width of 16.5 mm.
