In 1995, Helmut Wilderer, a German restaurateur, founded Wilderer Distilleries, South Africa’s first craft distillery. Driven by his passion for fine spirits and the abundance of world-class fruits and grapes in the country, he seized the opportunity to fill a gap in the market.
Today, Wilderer is a respected producer of Grappa, Eaux de Vie, Liqueurs, Gin, Rum, Vodka, and Moonshine, renowned for its exceptional quality and craftsmanship. The unique distillation process, combined with the use of a wide variety of botanicals, some of which are native to the Fynbos region of South Africa, results in a range of artisanal spirits with unparalleled flavour and complexity. Since January 2013, Wilderer has expanded its presence to the renowned Spice Route Destination, situated on a historic wine farm, in the heart of the Cape Winelands, the beautiful rural setting with its magnificent vistas of the surrounding mountains and valleys, and with fabled Table Mountain looming in the distance, is an integral part of the overall experience.
