Our first requirement in any of our products is halal compliance. To have completed the certification process with HAB says a great deal about our commitment to Halal, Vegetarian and Vegan compliance. We take our responsibility to all consumers that rely on these categorisations. As Halal consumers the management are committed to consuming halal products only, and we know that is the case for all Vegans and Vegetarians. We will never knowingly break this trust. The Difference between self certification and certification by a authorised body: It is possible to self-certify as halal, vegetarian and vegan, as a producer you can do this yourself at little or no additional cost, most if not all self certification relies on the consumer trusting the producer. Certification bodies look at the facts and the processes and compare them to strict guidelines. some may be statutory and others may be requirements of the certifying body itself. Evidence of the certification is required from the material suppliers, including and subsidiary processes used to make the final product. This includes raw materials, recipe ingredients, storage, cross contaminations possibilities and processes used to create the final product used by manufacturers. Evidence of compliance extends to packaging and labelling including glues and caps and closures. Then there is the cost of certification, it’s not cheap. The accreditations do have value for the consumer. Some larger manufacturers will have internal QA systems that can self accredit in line with the current guidelines. In our market space we know of Halal establishments selling so call halal spirits, we go to the producers direct and request confirmation of “halal and vegan certification”. As at 26/11/24 we have not received a positive confirmation that the products from manufacturers have halal or vegan certification.
