Welcome to Trierer Original...a homepage by Trierers for Trierers - and for the many visitors from around the world. Here you will find all the important and interesting information as well as fascinating stories about our city - our ancestors and the old, mostly mysterious buildings from a history of over 2000 years. In addition, a clear shop with many beautiful items such as clothing, souvenirs, and gifts is available online. It is nice to welcome you here. To begin, I would like to introduce myself briefly: My name is Jörg Wrhel, I work in IT and am a true Trierer. While my father moved from Bavaria to Trier, my mother and all her ancestors come directly from our, somehow special city. For a long time, I have been interested not only in German history (Antiquity and the Middle Ages) but even more so in our very interesting Trier history. For many probably boring, but for me very exciting and entertaining. Stories about battles and heroic deeds, about betrayal and intrigue, about destruction and reconstruction, about courage and solidarity, and about murder and raids. No other German city has been destroyed as often as our city of Trier since its founding in 16 BC. So wrote an old chronicler after our city was ravaged by the Franks in 407: "Now there are no more performances. Not even where they used to be common. One no longer plays in the city of Mainz - it is devastated. One no longer plays in Cologne - it is full of enemies. One no longer plays in the beautiful city of Trier - it lies destroyed on the ground four times." And if we want to believe the inscription from the 17th century of the red house next to the Steipe, our city even looks back on an even older - over 4000-year history. This interesting inscription of the red house at the main market is of course not historically documented and comes from the realm of fables and legends (which does not mean that there is not some truth to the statement. Are not ancient, repeatedly transmitted legends often important clues and signposts in the search for the historical core? Who can claim to be closer to the events of over 4000 years ago than ancient transmitted stories?). Trebeta, the son of the Assyrian king Ninus, fled from his stepmother to Europe and founded the legendary city of Trier (formerly Treviris, Augusta Treverorum / the city of the Treveri) around 2000 BC. Less legendary, this time historically documented, is the founding of Trier under Emperor Augustus in 16 BC. And if we agree with the well-known words of the Roman writer Herodian from the 2nd/3rd centuries - "Rome is where the emperor is," then at least in late antiquity around the years 293 to 392, especially during the Constantinian epoch, the imperial city of Augusta Treverorum certainly has the rank of "Secunda Roma" - (Second Rome) to be acknowledged.
