The Department started in the year 1990 under the astute leadership of Dr. Shobha Lal (Professor and Head), Dr. Harshad Punjani and Dr. Hemant Pathak. A separate urology OT with 25 bedded male and 10 bedded female wards were established. The department had its first postgraduate student in the year 1992 and number of post graduate students increased to 3 in year 2010. First Urodynamic machine in Maharashtra was installed in year 1985. Dr. Hemant Pathak took over as head of the department in year 1995 and the 1^stCadaveric transplant was done in year 1997.A dedicated Pediatric Urology OPD was started in the year 2009 which is the only such OPD in Maharashtra. First laser prostate surgery was done in the year 2008. The department has a very high operative load of endourology with more than 2000 endourological procedures done annually. Many educational workshops and seminars were conducted at the department including Holmium laser workshop, Tumour Board and RIRS workshop. We also held a conference, URORECON 2019 which was attended by eminent urologists throughout the country. Modular OT was commenced on 30 July 2018 to augment the transplant programme. A dedicated Andrology Clinic has been started in February 2021 and 1st of its kind Penile prosthesis workshop was conducted. Constant upgradation and maintenance of the department has been possible due to various donations from Budhrani trust, Bagadiya Brothers, Nair Alumni , Gharda Chemicals , Rotary Club and Kirandevi Saraf Trustto whom we are grateful. Recent acquisitions by the department are state of art ESWL machine Dornier HM3 ,Siemens C Arm, Urodynamic system and 100-Watt Holmium laser machine.  We regularly perform kidney transplant surgeries at our institute. We do kidney stone surgeries via minimal access approach with the help of lasers. Endoscopic prostate surgery also forms a major part of our workload. We also perform surgeries for cancers of kidney, urinary bladder, prostate, adrenals and genital organs and when indicated these are done by laparoscopic approach. Our department is a referral centre for urological ailments in children specifically hypospadias surgery. We also cater to male sexual dysfunction and infertility patients along with its medical and surgical management through the recently started Andrology OPD.
