Assist in elevating the informal sectors from the manual intensive one to a mechanized, progressive one, fit for the current technological era. Attract more people including fresh graduates and unemployed youths into the informal sectors which hold promising growth potential. Enhance earning capacity of the informal sectors. Our belief is that all the above can be realized if stakeholders come up with products and services that are specifically customized for this noble industry and geared towards making it transition from brick and mortar time-lapsed state into a mechanically sound one. Despite the construction industry value chain coming up with Top-Notch products including finishes, providers still rely on manual labor to perform contracted tasks. Kenya Bureau of Statistics pegs the number of power tools in the Hands of artisans as “one tool” to five tradesmen. This is worrying. In South Africa (for example) an average artisan has five vocational power tools and is empowered through supplementary channels to acquire two more in a year. In Nigeria, the National government in partnership with the entire informal sector value chain, was able to ignite the potential of this niche industry by assisting close to two million artisans to own relevant power tools and upgrade them into becoming employers through customized acquisition models it worked one hundred percent. Despite being the single biggest employer the informal construction sector in Kenya lacks dedicated support that can make it enviable, attractive, and dignified enough to put in more recruits including the technology-savvy youths. This is principally informed by the low level of mechanization.
