Textile Métiers d’Art Bretagne

The association Textile Métiers d’Art Bretagne was founded on November 20, 2003, by professionals in the textile field. Its primary vocation is to promote the knowledge of textile arts professions to the general public. It is thus the initiator of the "Toutes Fibres Dehors!" salon, the first edition of which took place in Peillac (56) in 2006. This salon has since been organized in La Gacilly in 2014 and 2016, in St Vincent sur Oust in 2018, and will take place again in La Gacilly in 2021. In addition to the "Toutes Fibres Dehors" salon, the association Textile d'Art en Bretagne organized in 2015 (Vannes), in 2017 (Vannes, St Thélo, and Quimper), and in 2019 (Quimper and La Gacilly) the exhibition "Textile, A Living Art." At a time when globalization, industrialization, and mass production are generally synonymous with standardization, loss of originality, and creativity, it is important to encourage the maintenance of know-how, to preserve the heritage of craftsmanship to promote the diversity and richness of textile arts in Brittany. These skills are constantly evolving through the use of new materials, adaptations, and techniques... creativity inspired by contemporary tastes and needs. They represent a strong potential for local development, perfectly suited to current challenges. The textile industry is one of the most polluting industries. The way we consume these fashion or decoration products is at the heart of current reflections on sustainable development, pollution, or the economy, and this reflection is common to all generations. What are our clothes made of? What do they cost society in environmental and social terms? All these questions provoke thoughts about our own consumption patterns and our knowledge regarding textiles. Clothing touches us, both literally and figuratively, and the members of TMAB have always been attentive to the origin and nature of the threads and fabrics used: beautiful materials, natural and noble materials, artisanal and embodied production, short circuits, and tailor-made products, that is our vocation.
