T.W.Murray & Co. Limited is a Fishing, Hunting and general outdoor and sports specialist retail store situated in the main shopping street of Cork city; St.Patrick street. T.W.Murray & Co. Limited is a Fishing, Hunting and general outdoor and sports specialist retail store situated in the main shopping street of Cork city; St.Patrick street. The premises was Established in 1828 and the core activity of Firearm sales has remained throughout the history of the shop. In the early days Firearms were manufactured on site and “Murray” firearms are still in use today and examples in exceptional condition are very valuable. Ammunition was loaded on site and other products on offer included bicycles, Explosives for earth moving, Motor bikes and a host of other sporting goods. The O’Connell family have been associated with the business since the 1900’s. George O’Connell first managed and then purchased the business. The shop was famously the subject of a raid by the Cork IRA on November 18th 1919. George O’Connell was taken at gun point and forced to hand over the keys of the shop. Fortunately George O’Connell survived the ordeal and continued his stewardship until his death in 1958. At that point his son John O’Connell took over the running of the businesss. Soon after Fishing was added to the goods on offer amd many other products followed; childrens toys at Christmas, Darts , Pitch and putt, Footballs and a variety of other sporting goods. The premises has been the registered office of The Munster Game Association and The Cork Trout Anglers (now disbanded). The support of the people of Cork and Ireland is the key to our longevity and our many regulars keep us on our toes. We have been part of Cork’s sporting life for almost two centuries and we look forward to the challenges each year brings. We intend to continue to serve our customers for many years to come and we take great pride in our attention to detail in serving all our customers.
