Instructor Bio :
Jason Ames retired in 2021 from active service as a detective with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, with over 25 years of experience in patrol, custody, investigative, and emergency operations. Jason developed the CAPOST certified TECC curriculum for LASD use for training in-service personnel and academy recruits. Jason has contributed as a SME for TECC training, preparation, response concepts, and trauma kit specifications. He still serves as a volunteer, as an EMT with the LASD Antelope Valley Search & Rescue Team, on the LASD Disaster Incident Management Team, and teaching TECC/First Aid/CPR and Active Shooter Threat courses and exercises for LASD personnel and academy recruits.
Jason is a CAEMS certified Emergency Medical Technician. He is a CAPOST certified Academy Instructor, and a CAPOST and AAOS ECSI certified First Aid/CPR/AED/TECC Instructor. He has incorporated Tactical Emergency Casualty Care concepts into classes he teaches for in-service personnel, First Aid/CPR/AED instructor courses, as well as for the LASD Academy.
Jason was first certified as an EMT in 1992. After beginning his law enforcement career in 1995, he recognized the lack of quality first responder medical training given to law enforcement. When he began instructing First Aid/CPR/AED classes in 2008, Jason recognized the need for TECC skills. He saw that with the rise in violent and mass casualty incidents, first responders needed more advanced, more efficient skills, beyond traditional First Aid, to more effectively render life-saving care for severe trauma injuries.
Jason has received extensive training in Emergency Disaster Response, Terrorism Awareness, and the FEMA Incident Command System for WMD/MCI/Terrorism events. He is currently completing a degree in Emergency Management.
He has attended resident courses at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP), training in ICS and field operations for CBRNE disasters, participating in live nerve agent environments and hazmat/WMD rescue operations training. He has attended resident courses at New Mexico Tech’s Energetic Materials Research & Testing Center (EMRTC), training in ICS and field operations for Terrorist Bombing Incidents. He is certified by FEMA/DHS as an Incident Response to Terrorist Bombing (IRTB) and Prevention and Response to Suicide Bombing Incident (PRSBI) awareness training instructor.
Jason is certified by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) as a Training Site Course Coordinator, Instructor, and Provider for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC), Tactical Emergency Casualty Care for Law Enforcement Officers (TECC-LEO), Tactical Combat Casualty Care - All Combatants (TCCC-AC), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Bleeding Control for the Injured (B-Con), First on the Scene (FOTS), All Hazards Disaster Response (AHDR), Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS), and Psychological Trauma in EMS Patients (PTEP) courses. Jason served on the NAEMT author development team for the 2nd Edition of the TECC-LEO course.
Jason is certified in Advanced Burn Life Support by the American Burn Association.
He is certified by the Department of Homeland Security as a Basic Tactical Medical Instructor and Active Shooter Threat Instructor. He is certified as an education center coordinator and instructor by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Emergency Care & Safety Institute (AAOS ECSI).
Jason is recognized by the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care as an TECC instructor, adhering to their national TECC program guidelines.
Jason is a member of the Special Operations Medical Association (SOMA).
In 2020, Jason received the Centurion Award for Excellence in Training by an Instructor from the Police Officer's Association of Los Angeles County (POALAC).
