On Marbækvej in Esbjerg, Carl Gustav Hansen founds a sole proprietorship that produces molded letters and house numbers in acrylic.
Carl Gustav Hansen names the company Scandinavian Advertising Industry.
Scandinavian Advertising Industry produces the first signs with built-in lighting. Among other things, double-sided lighted signs are manufactured for butcher shops and hairdressers.
Denmark is experiencing economic growth, and many new stores are opening. With the increased competition, it is important that advertising signs attract attention in the street’s landscape. In lighted sign production, pinol bulbs are replaced by fluorescent lamps, which have a stronger brightness.
Scandinavian Advertising Industry moves to Stærevej in Esbjerg.
Hans Nørskov takes up employment in the company as an accountant. A blacksmith’s department is established in the company, as the demand for larger signs mounted on steel structures increases.
The economic prosperity in Denmark and the increasing consumption of the Danes mean that the number of vehicles on the roads is growing. This creates a new opportunity for advertising, thus launching the first signs for cars. Lighted signs are delivered to customers, such as those for FDM’s sales vehicles.
The first lighted signs for trucks are introduced.
Hans Nørskov takes over the company together with a partner, Poul Arne Pedersen.
Scandinavian Advertising Industry is converted into a public limited company. In everyday conversation, just the SRI abbreviation is used.
The classic lighted sign for trucks, ClassicSign®, is introduced to the market. The sign is popular today.
The company is expanding with a second production hall at Stærevej.
SRI adds neon signs to their product range. Neon tubes can be bent and shaped — with this new light source, SRI can create façade signs, and signs with a more artistic expression.
SRI launches a 2500 m2 building on Øresundsvej in Esbjerg. The new factory is designed in collaboration with the English subcontractor, ICI. The factory now also includes a new silk-screen printing department and its own painting cabin.
SRI celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Aerodynamic wind deflectors for trucks are designed and produced in fiberglass.
SRI invests in the first CAD/CAM equipment, namely a large vertical Wild cutting table.
Hans Nørskov’s partner leaves the company, and it is now solely taken over by the Nørskov family.
SRI’s next classic, the AeroSign® lighted sign for trucks, will be introduced to the market.
The store chains in Denmark are rapidly emerging. SRI supplies lighted signs to some of the country’s major chains: Synoptics, Sportmaster, Inspiration, Imerco, and Prince.
The company moves to Håndværkervej.
The company is expanding with a department at Lindholmvej.
Hans Nørskov resigns, leaving the post as CEO to his son Flemming Nørskov.
Signal signs for trucks with built-in rotor flashes and headlights are introduced.
This year, signs are delivered to the gas company Metax/Shell for the first time. The petrol company will be SRI’s largest sign buyers in the 1990s.
Another newly-built production hall will be used at Lindholmvej.
The company becomes self-financing and is converted into a group with SRI Holding A/S as the main company.
SRI celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The company wins an order for Hyundai Cars in Denmark in a slightly special way. Hyundai has invited five companies to create a standing sign according to a description: the winning sign will be the best quality sign with a competitive price taken into consideration. SRI wins the order, and the Hyundai Group becomes this decade’s largest customer.
The company moves to its present address at Brolæggervej.
The company receives its first Gazelle Diploma.

FrontSignLED® lighted signs for trucks are launched.
SRI Sign Solution A/S wins a bid for an artwork of signs for the creative area called “The Red Square” in Copenhagen. Signs are supplied, for which inspiration has been obtained from many parts of the world.
The art work “SKIBSBYGGERIEJ 5” consisting of neon letters, 200 cm high, is supplied and mounted on the roof of the Danish Tax Administration in Aalborg.
In their 60th year, SRI receives a AAA rating from Soliditet (a credit and business company, Dun & Bradstreet in Denmark).
