The Franco American Osteopathic Society (S.O.F.A) was created in 2010 to maintain a living link with the historical origin of our profession. Dr. Andrew Taylor Still (1828-1917) Founder of osteopathic medicine Dr. William Garner Sutherland DO (1873-1954) founder of cranial osteopathy. The SOFA team has contributed this year to realizing the invitation that Osteopaths of France (ODF) made to intervene as part of its annual congress on May 31, 2024, in Lyon, whose theme is "THE 150 YEARS OF OSTEOPATHY." In addition to its intervention at the ODF congress on May 31, Dr. Jason Haxton, DO MA will give two lectures: The first lecture on Thursday, May 30, in Lyon will address "the history of osteopathy in the cranial field" from 2 PM to 6 PM at the Mercure Hotel in Lyon city center, Rue Bonnel. The second in Paris on Sunday, June 2, will cover "First research in the field of osteopathy." This meeting will take place from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Maison de l’Ostéopathie, 64 rue de la Colonie, 75013 Paris. Jason Haxton, MA, DO (h.c.) has been the director of the Osteopathic Medicine Museum since January 2001. In addition to managing the museum established in 1934, he travels extensively each year. He is also active in continuing medical education (CME) for physicians, giving lectures, presenting historical research papers, and promoting the principles of osteopathic medicine through exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad. Jason has worked on several documentaries, including the Historical Emmy Award PBS 2017: The Feminine Touch Spanish 2019: The Science of Osteopathy and German 2020: Osteopathy Healing with Hands. He is the author of Andrew Taylor Still - Father of Osteopathic Medicine, a biography aimed at young readers (10-12 years old). This is the first book of its kind approved for social studies curriculum programs. His objectives include understanding the origins of osteopathic ideas, principles, and doctrines, Dr. A.T. Still's relationships with patients through case studies from his publications, and Dr. Still's philosophy and practice of osteopathic care as a physician.
