At Smell of Love Candles, we have a simple rule: We won't sell anything that we wouldn't use in our own home! We want to ensure your peace of mind when using our products. Therefore we make our candles using only ethically-sourced non-GMO soy wax, luxury coconut wax, and essential oils. We use only ethically-sourced non-GMO soy wax and luxury coconut wax without any additives that are produced by American farmers. We use the highest quality of natural soy and coconut wax, which holds the best fragrance, allows for a longer and cleaner burn, and displays a smooth creamy appearance. We only support suppliers whose sourcing and sustainability practices align with our values of being eco-friendly and have high level environment standards. Historically, the fragrance industry has never been transparent about safety. Lack of disclosure from fragrance manufacturers regarding ingredients and the possible health risks of those ingredients was the norm.  At Smell of Love Candles, our standards are rigorous. We exclude phthalates, as well as materials with similar health concerns, including those on California's Prop 65 list. Materials known to be carcinogens in California aren't safe anywhere! There are five main hazard groups that we do not allow in our products:  *Carcinogens: These materials are known or thought to cause cancer.  *Mutagens: Materials that change the DNA of a cell, harming the cell and causing diseases like cancer.  *Reproductive toxins: Toxins that adversely affect reproductive organs and increase the risk of birth defects.  *Organ toxins: These are toxins that cause adverse effects or disease within specific bodily organs.  *Acute toxins: Toxins that can cause adverse effects from a single exposure. Generally, this would be accidental exposure like a spillage or ingestion. To make sure that your Smell of Love Candles give you the very best candle experience, you need to treat your candles right!  The first burn is very important. It sets the tone for how the candle will continue to burn throughout its lifespan. Always trim your candle's wick to 1/4 inch before lighting. Allow your candle to burn evenly, away from cooling/heating systems, as drafts may cause your candle to burn unevenly. Uneven burning produces unattractive memory rings, and these rings typically last for the life of the candle. Never leave your lit candle unattended! Please keep lit candles away from children and animals. Burn your candles for four hours or less at a time. After this, your candle will require time to cool.  Do not leave your candles in your car, as extreme temperatures will negatively impact your candles. The wax and fragrances we use here at Smell of Love Candles are malleable and will shift properties when exposed to intense light and temperature. Storing your candles in areas that are dimly lit and dry will support the maintenance of your candle.
