B-On-C Bådprodukter Here you will find everything for preparing your boat. We have polishing agents and other boat products, Coppercoat bottom paint for boats, sealants, 3M water filters, and a lot more. B-On-C can deliver boat products for all types of boats. What is the status of Coppercoat? Copper and thus copper powder is an active substance, and the assessment of active substances is conducted for the entire EU. At present, this process is expected to be completed no later than 2030. Until the completion of this assessment by the authorities, Coppercoat can be marketed, purchased, and applied without approval, just like competing products. As a distributor of an environmentally friendly product, B-On-C naturally expects that Coppercoat will be approved when the assessment phase is eventually completed. Regardless of the decision at that time, it will never be relevant to have to remove Coppercoat from the boat again. Coppercoat is a water-based, VOC-free, and non-eroding product that consists of copper powder encapsulated in water-based epoxy and contains no PFAS products, making it one of the most environmentally friendly bottom paints on the market. Coppercoat lasts more than 10 years, and there are boats that have sailed with Coppercoat for up to +20 years without re-treatment. You save yourself the annual cleaning and application of new bottom paint, and the investment is recouped after 4-5 years. At the same time, the environment is spared from pollution. Coppercoat is non-conductive and can be used on all types of boats, including aluminum. This hard self-polishing bottom paint does not absorb water like many other bottom paints; Coppercoat creates, due to its two-component epoxy composition, a waterproof layer that helps avoid osmosis. If you want to sail extra fast, the bottom can be sanded/polished after the application of Coppercoat, making it completely smooth and thus increasing speed; if you are a motorboat sailor, experience shows that you can save about 10% in fuel consumption. Coppercoat has been used since 1991, and more than 50,000 boats worldwide sail with Coppercoat. The product is approved and certified in Lloyd's register. Coppercoat contains only pure copper powder in spherical form, and therefore is also on the Ministry of the Environment's list (see the list) of legal products, as well as being registered in the Ministry of the Environment's product register, where consumption is reported. Biocide-free vs. environmentally friendly The product consists of copper, which is a biocide, but pure copper is not toxic for that reason: copper is a naturally occurring element that has been used for centuries and can be seen around the landscape on rooftops, etc. Other biocide-free products available on the market are not "active," as they do not contain any biocide and actually do not deter fouling. They "work" by being smooth, making it difficult for fouling to adhere. In theory, when the boat moves, the fouling glides off. This type of product is often used on commercial trading ships, as they are constantly moving and sailing around the world all day long at speeds of perhaps 15 knots. However, these products tend to be less applicable on leisure boats, as most leisure boats sit in the marina for weeks at a time, and fouling builds up. When they finally move, they move so slowly that fouling is not effectively washed off. But even these biocide-free products are not exactly "environmentally friendly." Normally, they release microplastics and contain PFAS products. So even though they are biocide-free, they can have other issues concerning their environmental footprint, especially seen in relation to the necessary cleaning before re-treatment every 2-3 years. Previously, conventional antifouling paints would typically contain a mixture of several active substances, but the latest EU legislation aims to limit the use of these co-biocides, so any given product may only contain one active substance. Coppercoat has used only one active substance from day one: 99.7% pure copper powder responsibly sourced in the UK from recycled copper wire. You can read an article in the latest Boat Magazine about the choice of bottom paints (or perhaps more about the avoidance of Coppercoat) based on 'anecdotes.' B-On-C sticks to the facts, and even though we are in no way in the league of companies with large marketing budgets, such as those offering free products in exchange for a ban on competition in the harbors around the country, the magazine should not allow outright falsehoods, even if they are due to ignorance; we are always available for comments.
