In June 2002, the Ethernet standard was approved, and ISO/IEC 11801 redefined multimode optical cables into three categories: OM1, OM2, and OM3 in September:
OM1 - This has been the multimode optical cable used for a long time, generally referring to 62.5-micron cables. It is mainly used to support traditional applications and short-distance Gigabit networks.
OM2 - Refers to 50-micron multimode fibers, supporting 500MHz/km, applicable in traditional applications and Gigabit Ethernet over 500 meters.
OM3 - A new type of 50-micron laser-optimized fiber, as OM1 and OM2 cannot achieve true 10 Gigabit transmission at 850nm and 1300nm. Only OM3 multimode fiber can reach 2000MHz at 850nm, truly aimed at the 10G future.
OM3 multimode optical cable: OM indoor GJFJV type optical cable, with aramid yarn as a strengthening component. The fiber adopts a tight-buffered coating structure, and the outer sheath is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or flame-retardant PVC, featuring lightweight, flexible, and easy stripping advantages.
Applicable for: Indoor communication optical cable trunk wiring; device connector, tail fiber patch cords, and fiber to the desktop wiring.
Application range: High transmission rate network applications within buildings (indoor optical cables) or between buildings (outdoor optical cables); optical cable trunk wiring; flat wiring (optical fiber) to the desktop using indoor tight-buffered structure optical cables.
Operating temperature: -20℃ to +60℃
